Mole between toes.

I have this mole on the inside of my toe. It's very small and round. Seems all one colour. I have shown it to my doctor already and he said it looks normal, but it's only just dawned on me that my feet are never exposed to the sun. I hate my feet so I never get them out! Ever!... which is why I don't know if it's been there my entire life and I've just not noticed it, or it's only been there the last couple of years. so now I'm scared that's it's going to be cancer or something.. im 26 and I have extreme anxiety and health anxiety. So i over panic about these times of things. just wanted to know if there's any one else out there with moles on their feet who also never expose them to the sun Snd if everything had turned out to be normal. I have got another appointment with my doctor but not until next week. Just need some reassurance. :)

  • Hi,

You are very young and it would be unusual for a mole, if new, to be malignant. New moles can appear throughout our lives and are usually only suspicious once we get to over 40!

If the mole doesn't fit any of the ABCDE rules, then that is also a good sign. Also, moles on the foot aren't unusual unless on the sole of the foot or under a nail & then they are treated as suspicious.

If it was an existing mole it could become malignant due to UV damage or, in a very small number of cases, due to genetics. The fact your mole has never seen the sun, that you are very young and it doesn't score any points on the ABCDE rules means there is a very high chance your mole is fine. However, as it's causing you anxiety, definitely ask for the GP to check it again. Personally, I've had a mole removed from the sole of my foot & another on the top of my foot - both were benign. As a melanoma patient my feet haven't seen the sun since first diagnosed 25 years ago!

Good luck and I hope they can calm your fears,

    Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient)
