Urgent referral appointment colposcopy and biopsy

Hello, 

I'm looking to see if anyone has experienced anything similar to me who might be able to give me advice and alleviate some of my terrible anxiety.

I went for a routine smear test last week, but was told that I had a reteoverted uterus which had complicated things so I had to return the following week for another smear test.

However, during this next appointment the doctor found a hard lump and so I have been given an urgent referral appointment for a colposcopy and likely biopsy. 

I had a clear smear test 4 years ago and between then and now I've had a baby. 
 

I'm really struggling with all of this as it's been a bit of a shock. I'm doing what most people probably do in my position and assuming the worst. 
 

Has anyone else had an experience like this?

    Hi Bethanne,

    I read your story and I am going through something similar just now. A couple of lumps were found on my cervix and I have been referred urgently to for a cancer pathway appointment. 

    During my GP appointment yesterday I was asking the gp about the lumps and she explained that she didn't know what they were, and that's why it's she's referred me. Then she laughed and said that she didn't want to scare me. I didnt really know how to take that. I want to know what the situation is as I have had other worrying symptoms too.

    However, I am beyond anxious. I have a 3 year old little girl and find myself thinking the worst. Distraction helps but only for so long until I'm on my own and my mind reels. 

    I'm still waiting for my appointment date to come through but the waiting is just awful. It doesn't feel quite real. 
    I really hope everything is ok for you. Thank you for being brave and sharing your story. It has inspired me to do the same.

    Thank you for replying. I can completely relate with your worries. I think it's human nature to assume the worst. I am also finding it hard when I'm alone. I have a 2 year old.

    I hope your appointment comes in soon as the waiting really is difficult, and I hope everything is okay for you. My appointment came through this morning for next week. 

    I think what is difficult is that women are only really examined during a smear test, which we immediately associate with cancer. If this was a postnatal examination to check everything had recovered properly, then I don't think my mind would jump so quickly. 
     

    I'm just trying to keep things in perspective, but I'm having a lot of wobbles!
