Breast clinic referral time Scotland

Hi does anyone know how long the referral time is in Scotland at the moment?

Discovered a lump months ago but kept putting off going to Doctors until I got pain too! (stupid me) finally went this week, doctor hasn't said much, he could see the lump without examining me, on examination has said its localised & would refer me, no idea if it's an urgent referral or not.

I'm now going out my head worrying!!

  • Hi Leahbee,

So sorry to hear you've found a lump, fingers crossed its nothing sinister

I had a mammogram & ultrasound then after the consultant told me it was cancer I then had the biopsies. All done on the first visit! I go back next Friday for results & a treatment plan.

I suppose its good they get it all done in one day.

Please stay positive, there were at least 8 people at the clinic having examinations & I was the only one diagnosed with cancer that day so those odds are definitely on your side

I already prepared myself for the worst I had 3 symptoms so knew the odds were high for me. I hadnt told anyone i was going to the clinic so went alone, not sure if this was the right choice as I know can't remember half of what I was told so I'd suggest take someone with you just for a 2nd set of ears.

Sending lots of love & keeping everything crossed that it's good news for you xx

  • Thank you Brie. I haven't felt right since March and probably even further back if I really think about it. I've been having terrible hot flashes, stabbing pain from armpit into left breast, mood swings, bleeding every two weeks like a period and stomach pain. She referred me to have a scan of my ovaries as it they were tender to touch as well and that's when she checked my breasts. I check and never felt anything and to be honest I still can't find or feel it.

Thanks for letting me know what to expect, I'm so sorry that you got that diagnosis when you were there. That must have been extremely tough for you take. Do you mind me asking what symptoms you had that made you certain? How are you feeling about the next steps?

Your kind words are very much appreciated and I would like to keep in touch with you to know how you are getting on.

Sending love and positive wishes xxx

  • Hi Brie21,

i am in scotland too and i just posted a thread asking what happens at first appts but the above is really helpful. I feel 90% sure i have cancer by the doctor's response. I guess i just want to be seen and if it is BC then i can start treatment and get it sorted i am quite a pragmatic person.

    love to you x

  • My boss just said i was mad for wanting to go on my own next week for my breast clinic appt but my hubby is a crier and a worrier i need to hear it and process things myself first without someone else crying or fussing round me. So glad i'm not alone in that !

    xx

  • Oh you sound just like me!

I didn't even tell anyone I'd been to the Doctor! Family had no idea about any of it so it came as a big shock to my husband but I didn't want anyone fussing or worrying.

The consultant was lovely, I told him no sugar coating anything just give it me straight I'm sure at some point I will break down but for now I'm staying as normal as possible, just want to get everything over & done with.

Lots of love fingers crossed your appointment goes well x

  • My friend went to get GP in England, sent straight to the hospital, biopsy carried out on the same day. I've waited 3 weeks in Glasgow so far and still nothing!! I hope you're keeping well
