27, unexplained swollen lymph node in neck

Two weeks ago I noticed a small swelling in my neck, I don't know exactly how long it has been there but it's gradually gotten bigger.

I went to my GP who has referred me on an urgent basis to see an ENT specialist and sent me for urgent bloods. I got my bloods done yesterday - does anyone know a rough turn around for getting urgent blood tests back to the GP? I was thinking of calling today at about 4pm but I know they will call me if anything unusual come back. I know they are super busy and don't want to be pushy.

The lump is unexplained, I haven't been poorly, no infection and my glands never ever swell. I am so terrified. I have been googling about lymphoma, which was probably the worst thing I could have done and have seen lots of people post, and it turn out to be cancer.

I don't even know the point of posting this - I know no one here can diagnose me and I just have to be patient.

Thank you for listening to my ramble!

  • Hi Milly2693.  Welcome to the forum.

I'm not a doctor and I have no medical qualifications.

Turn around times for blood tests are usually pretty quick - a couple of days.

Please try not worry about this, since it could well turn out to be nothing too serious. We're not always aware of the infection that caused a lymph node to swell up, and it's not too unusual for a node to still be swollen after a couple of weeks.  You didn't mention having the classic lymphoma symptoms of drenching night sweats (so bad you have to change the sheets), weight loss, and itching.

Most lumps turn out to be harmless, and 9 out of 10 people who get an urgent referral for possible cancer turn out NOT to have it.
