Itchy tingly mole on face

Hi all,

I'm 34 and I've had a large mole on the side of my face for as long as I can remember.  It's by the side near my ear so never really paid it much attention.

It starged itching about a week ago. I suffer from health anxiety anyway so of course was straight onto Google and now I'm scared to death.

It doesn't appear to have changed in size or shape at all (from what I can tell anyway) just this constant itching. (sort of like a tingly feeling)

I called my gp who booked me in for a telephone consultation next wednesday.

I'm so scared, I'm trying to be strong around my children (3 and 7) but it's all I can think about and I'm close to tears everyday.

I've taken about 200 pictures of the size of my face trying to spot any changes but am driving myself crazy with worry.

What do I do? If it is something bad, I can't leave my babies. My fear isn't about me, it's about them being so young and not understanding If I have to leave them. Sorry for the gloom and doom, I'm just so scared right now x

  • Hello Haymil,

A big welcome to Cancer Chat. You took the right steps in getting in touch with your GP about this mole and I hope that the telephone consultation goes well next Wednesday. Keep strong - I know it is really hard but try not to think too much about this while you are waiting. It won't be long before you talk to the GP so try and keep busy and distracted and to focus on something else while you are waiting to speak to your doctor about this. Resist the urge to take so many pictures of your face as this will only fuel your anxiety at the moment. It's normal to be scared and to fear the worst but the best thing to do for now is to try and focus on the moment and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
