Blood in stools

Hi I have been experiencing blood in my stools for about 5 months now, every time I go, this comes in stool, bloody mucus, sometimes turns the water red and appears every time I wipe.

I often feel the need to go to the toilet then find myself sitting on the loo waiting for it to come, and it does eventually, it's not particularly hard or loose so just can't think where it's coming from.

I'm experiencing pain in abdomen and lower back, and have recently started getting what feels like shooting nerve pain down both legs.

I have had a colonoscopy that came back completely clear, no open wounds or lumps and blood tests that have also come back clear, however, my doctors have booked me an appointment to discuss my stool sample.

I have previously experienced bleeding for a year between 2018 and 2019, after a year it just stopped and I was to embarrassed to discuss it, however as it came back with a vengeance I had to get it checked.

  • Hello Lil.D,

You did well to get this checked so never feel embarrassed about this and remember doctors do this on a daily basis so they are totally used to situations like yours. It's reassuring that your colonoscopy came back clear - that must have been a relief for you. I hope that they can tell you more about where this blood is coming from and that it stops happening as well soon as it must be distressing for you to see this every day.

Hopefully you will get some clarity soon as to what is going on when you see your doctor to discuss your stool sample. I hope this appointment is happening soon and that you get the answers and reassurance you need at the moment.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you,

It was a relief to have a clear colonoscopy, (as my father had very aggressive cancer that appeared to start in the bowel) however it has left me thinking where to I go from here?

I have contacted my Dr surgery asking for my results but the reception has said I have to see the doctor so that is concerning and the wait is agonising.
