Bleeding from vagina after a bowel movement!

Hi all. I am looking for advice as I am freaking out. Quick background - 30 year old female, mother of 2. (Youngest is 2 years old) both delivered by emergency c section. No previous medical conditions. I last had a smear test done in January 2020 and result came back normal. For the last 6 months or so my periods have been Irregular and most recently I have been spotting a lot in between periods. I have also discovered the connection that every time I have a bowel movement I bleed from my vagina!! I can't find any other explanation for this other than cervical cancer! Anyone experienced this?? TIA!

  • Hi how are you now? Your symptoms were like mine and just wondering how you got on? I hope you’re better!?

  • Hello, I’m not sure if anyone’s active on this. I’m 23 had a baby 2 years ago, natural birth no complications. I have bled from my front bum for a while after having bowel movements, I didn’t think anything of it to begin with I just thought it was from squeezing while doing the toilet. But it’s happened a lot now. The blood is fresh, and disappears after. I have only looked online as my friends have started worrying about it saying I should phone the doctor. I’m now in an utter panic reading some of these posts, I may also ask that when I was pregnant everytime after I would do a pee in the morning I would have a sore stomach, that has never left even after having my baby, mostly every single morning my stomach is sore from doing my first pee, the doctors have never picked up on it or thought it was abnormal, has anyone else experienced this along with the bleeding with the bowl movements? Thank you. I am phoning the doctor first thing in the morning

  • Has anyone any updates also happening to me?

  • Hi  :) I wish I had more info for you, I have no updates on my end... bloodwork, ultrasound, paptest all came back normal. No infections. And this has been happening for 13 months for me..

    Its confusing..

  • 13 months!? this has been happening for me for around 4 and I feel like I’m going crazy. First it was spotting and now this. Had a pap 2 Tuesdays ago but I’m in the UK and the results takes WEEKS. Good luck o hope you get some answers soon

  • I went to the doctors, she actually didn’t seem concerned at all about it, she said she’s never heard of it before, which makes me feel like it should be a little more concerning. After explaining things and what I seen on this she done a couple swabs, checked my cervics, I can’t get a smeer test because I’m under 25. She’s also sending me for an ultrasound. Hopefully all comes back clear, weird if nothing comes back either and why it’s happening.

  • So I have been having this problem for around 2 year's. I’ve had scans, bloods, swabs tried the coil. Everything as always come back normal. When it first started it was always mid cycle every time I had a bowl movement until my actual period then after my period it would stop until mid cycle again. I’ve spent the last 2 year worrying about it and it’s sending me insane. In recent months my period have started to change the dark brown and thick and the bowl movement bleed happen every time not just mid cycle. I’m at then end of the line with trying the doctors I’ve been so much about this I think they just don’t want to listen any more. To be honest they have tried to find the cause but everything comes back normal. The worry is starting to affect my mental health I actually dread going to the toilet. I’m 38 with 2 kids 12 and 9.

  • Thank you for sharing your experiences. This has happened to me twice just last week and it has freaked me out. I’m 51, menopausal and have had really heavy vaginal discharge for months. Been tested for everything, had antibiotics, creams, a coil. But nothing stops it. Now this vaginal bleeding has started after a bowel movement. I’m going for an ultrasound on Friday afternoon. Doctors keep saying there’s nothing to worry about!! But this isn’t normal! Like you, it’s driving me mad, wake up in the night worrying about it. Xx

  • I’ve had this on and off for years. I had a smear test come back normal, blood test come back normal, and a scan which showed that I had a small fibroid which was the cause of the bleeding. I still get the bleeding after a bowel movement, but relieved to know what it is. They said it could be removed, but they grow back.

  • Had this problem myself for a good few months now on and off, and googled and found this chat thread - I had a smear, which they didn't check because I didn't have HPV. I do wonder if more people will become seriously ill from undetected issues, just because they don't have HPV so they don't do a full check?

Anyway, I'm 47 and apparently this is common in perimenopause, I've also just finished a period lasting 17 days (actual bleeding days).  I also have fibroids - but these haven't been checked since my last scan about 10 years ago. Ever since, I have had very heavy periods, where I soak a super overnight pad from top to bottom in less than an hour for two full days and then a normal/light bleed for another 5. IT's a nightmare.  I've now been told I have a low red blood cell count, but again, the doctors don't seem to want to do anything about it. I've seen 4 different doctors about this in the last 2 years alone. I can't even get an ultrasound scan.

I've even been fired from jobs in the past (I'm a contractor) where I've suddenly sneezed and bled all over the fancy office chairs.
