Worried first smear test cane back positive

Hello, 

So since receiving my postive letter from my smear say hpv found, no abnormal cervical cells?

I have bin googling a look witch I no I shouldn't but so ashamed and scared and it came up about herpes and I just over thinking and worrying to much? But the letter says nothing to worry about but I can't sleep can eat over thinking it :cry: 

or would they have said for me to go straight back in if they thought it was something like that  

can somebody please help me

    I think you can stop worrying.  They have told you all is normal etc

    Obviously I am much older than you.  I do remember a number of years ago I had one done that was HPV (human papilloma virus, not sure got that quite right but if you Google you will find) positive.  Like you I felt quite concerned.  I learned though that there are a lot of different strains of this virus but only one that causes cervical cancer potentially.  So if they are telling you you are ok I really would not worry.  In time my smears came back completely clear again x

    Hi Shan

    The HPV virus is not the same thing as herpes. Most sexually active people will come into contact with HPV during their lives and for the vast majority it causes no issues at all. 

    No abnormal cells have been found in your case, so you are fine and don’t have anything to worry about.The whole point of the cervical screening programming is to pick up changes to cells and treat them. As you have had no cell changes, you are ok.
