Cervical cancer symptoms

Hi

I've been recently suffering symptoms of cervical cancer. They have been frequent bloating, watery and smelly discharge, pelvic pain, dull ache in my back and tops of my legs. I've even had very smelly discharge from my belly button. I've been eating but not able to eat a full meal due to feeling very full quickly. I've actually been really fatigued and tired. Basically I feel like I've constantly have my period. My period is always every 4 weeks and very very light which only last 2 days. I went to my dr and she has done a ca125 blood test, swabs and a pelvic examination. I'm still waiting on results as this was done late on Thursday. My dr told me my cervix was very tight and asked If I've had trouble to conceive in the past as well as see being painful. She also had trouble seeing my ovaries. She said once my results come back from my bloods and swabs we'll then take the next steps. I'm so scared as there's been various things happened to the women in my mums side of the family. My gran died from womb cancer and my aunt and cousin have both had abnormal cells and struggled to carry pregnancy full term. My sister also had very bad endo which ended up with her having cysts on her ovaries and having to have a full hysterectomy plus her womb hadn't developed properly. Sorry for the long post. I hope I haven't bored anyone too much.

  • Hello everyone. I'm new to this so please bare with me.

I'm 23.. yes 23! And been having symptoms of cervical cancer. I have irregular periods, pain when having intercourse and spotting to a light bleed after intercourse. Between the bleeding I have a water discharge that soak my pants with a strong ish odour. I've been so so so tired for the past 6 months or more, which I've been to the doctor about and they couldnt find anything wrong in bloods ect.

So yesterday I made the move to go get seen and speak about my symptoms, they declined a smear test because I'm still to young. So they have reffured me to specialists but have to wait 4-6 weeks to hear from them :( I'm going out of my mind over thing everything. I have 2 small children to think about aswell and I'm scared so so scared x

  • Hi Selina

Your symptoms could well be related to something other than cervical cancer, but I appreciate you’re very worried. What I would say is that a smear test is not a diagnostic test for cervical cancer, and nor are blood tests,  so the doctor has done the right thing in referring you to a specialist. There is a waiting time unfortunately, but if your doctor had suspected anything sinister you would have been referred under the 2 week pathway as this is what they have to do.

Did your doctor do any other kind of test or swab in case you have an infection? x

  • Thank you for replying. Yes I have had swabs done a few weeks ago to check for any infection and STIs. All come back clear.

She did seem very concerned about it and got the head of the doctor surgery to come in to speak to. Which where he explained I'm to young for a smear and I should get referred. (They didn't look at my cervix yesterday) just spoke. X

  • I think you should definitely have someone do a pelvic exam and have a look at your cervix, since you don’t have any infection or STI. I’m surprised the doctor didn’t do that. My understanding is that smear tests, even if performed by the doctor, are not tested if you haven’t reached the age for the cervical screening programme. So the right thing to do is see the gynaecologist. It’s horrible that there will be such a long wait for this, but the wait for appointments just now which are not considered urgent is sometimes longer than it would normally be because of the backlogs which have built up with Covid. x

  • Heya! Please let me know how you get on today, hoping you come out feeling more positive.

I've just had my bloods done so will wait for a call Wednesday xx

  • Hiya! It's really hard to say don't worry because I think that's our natural instincts. I can't really advise much as I'm still in limbo with the doctors doing bloods, then wanting to re check them. I too thought I should of had an internal examination but they want to wait for these bloods.

On the positive side it's really good that they have referred you so you can get some answers. xx

  • Hey Lisa

So had my ct today. Wasn't told anything apart from the results will get sent back to my gp. I wasn't told how long this will take. Had the dye injected and the feeling of wetting yourself was horrible lol. I've been put on new meds from my gp to help with spasms n cramps but they've actually made me sick. I hope you get some positive news on Wednesday from your bloods.

  • Hey Ducky! That's a shame they couldn't tell you how long. Have you called your surgery to maybe ask if they have a timeframe? Sorry to hear about your sickness. Last thing you need right now. xxx

  • Hey Lisa

I phoned my surgery and all I was told it can take a few days to weeks. But my gp will phone with results. How did you get on with your blood results today x

  • Oh I hope it's not too long for you.

Well my lymphocytes are back down, but my hormone level is odd she said. So now I have to have another blood test to check my thyroid. Another two week wait. She's said about going in tomorrow so she can check the lumps, but I've just never felt so fobbed off. They said it was a full blood count so why haven't these things been checked. And as much as I understand bloods can help with some things I'm under the impression it needs to be properly checked. Just feel drained with it all! xx
