Is it bad news?

So my partner found a lump in his next last April (2020) he left it a few months before ringing drs about it. They did bloods which came back normal. He has a scan in January this year and they said it looked normal but to come back on 6 weeks for another scan. So he went back and lump still there said it had grown 7mm but again looked normal. Said to be safe they would refer back to gp for a biopsy. He has the biopsy 15 days ago, he got a letter yesterday morning with an appointment for next Wednesday however later in the day the hospital rang saying they had a "cancellation" for today but he declined due to short notice and his work being understaffed.

so my question is as they have asked him to go in for his results and tried getting him in sooner is this a Sign that it is cancer (they where testing for Lymphoma) or is this normal practice whether positive or negative? Or am I just overthinking. TIA

  • Hello Lauren, I am so sorry for you and your partner, it really is crap- I am currently back on the cancer roundabout again and waiting to find out the score for myself on monday, which feels like such a long time.

It is totally normal to fret about them calling him in, but it may just be logistics (they know he is waiting and they have a space to fill) and also from kindness- they will want to make the anxious wait as short as they can. It's hard for us to imagine but juggling us lot around is also their day-to-day, and it's best not to read anything at all into it, sending you many positive vibes xxx

PS from experience it feels better to know what you're dealing with, rather than be uncertain, even bad news brings certainty, a plan, a way forward- and I say that as one who has had a fair few sweaty moments in a doctors chair. Nothing feels as bad as the waiting and wondering. Best of luck to you both x

  • Hi. How did you get on yesterday? I hope all is ok? X

  • Hello! I have had a lucky escape - I think (have to have an MRI in a couple of weeks to make sure)

I saw the oncologist yesterday and she tutted and rolled her eyes and said that I must not pay heed to what the radiologists say... I actually live in France and here they give you your results straight away, apparently they also get things wrong (this is not the first time they've blown things out of proportion, which is terrifying) So I am in a state of exhausted relief, thank you so much for asking.

Now thinking about you both, I really hope you get some good news tomorrow, please do update, I will be sending you good vibes X

PS If you can't think positive (I know the feeling) I find reminding myself that everything is in hand, that things are being looked after and being done, can help calm me down

PPS sorry , should have said that my own story was that a routine pet scan last week revealed 2 areas of concern - one big (4-5cm) and one small. The radiologist was alarmist and according to her there was only one reason for these anomalies... my onco says otherwise, I am believing her!!

  • I'm so pleased everything is good with you. Fingers crossed for the mri. Bet you was so worried when they called Friday. Thanks just sat outside waiting for 10 so can go in. He is calm as can be and says he isn't worried. My nerves are shot. Will let you know outcome later x

  • Hey sorry for the delay in updating. So news wasn't great last week. Was diagnosed with B cell leukaemia. Heads been everywhere this last week thinking the worst. Saw the specialist yesterday who said it's not curable however it's slow growing and at this time doesn't need treatment and some people never do or is they do they have chemo or other treatments to push it back etc. Still not the best of news but feeling more positive today. Was hell waiting for yesterday's appointment. He Had PET scan last Thursday too but not had results but dr said from other results he can't see it changing. Back in 4 months for a check up and think it will be regular visits to see how it's progressing x
