Is it bad news?

So my partner found a lump in his next last April (2020) he left it a few months before ringing drs about it. They did bloods which came back normal. He has a scan in January this year and they said it looked normal but to come back on 6 weeks for another scan. So he went back and lump still there said it had grown 7mm but again looked normal. Said to be safe they would refer back to gp for a biopsy. He has the biopsy 15 days ago, he got a letter yesterday morning with an appointment for next Wednesday however later in the day the hospital rang saying they had a "cancellation" for today but he declined due to short notice and his work being understaffed.

so my question is as they have asked him to go in for his results and tried getting him in sooner is this a Sign that it is cancer (they where testing for Lymphoma) or is this normal practice whether positive or negative? Or am I just overthinking. TIA

  • Hello Lauren, I am so sorry for you and your partner, it really is crap- I am currently back on the cancer roundabout again and waiting to find out the score for myself on monday, which feels like such a long time.

It is totally normal to fret about them calling him in, but it may just be logistics (they know he is waiting and they have a space to fill) and also from kindness- they will want to make the anxious wait as short as they can. It's hard for us to imagine but juggling us lot around is also their day-to-day, and it's best not to read anything at all into it, sending you many positive vibes xxx

PS from experience it feels better to know what you're dealing with, rather than be uncertain, even bad news brings certainty, a plan, a way forward- and I say that as one who has had a fair few sweaty moments in a doctors chair. Nothing feels as bad as the waiting and wondering. Best of luck to you both x

  • Thank you so much for your reply. I'm sorry to hear your also going through this. Fingers crossed for some good news on Monday for you. I know what you mean even if it was a day would feel a lifetime.

yeah I'm trying to not worry or over think but your right it's the waiting that makes it feels worse. I would much prefer they just rang said what it is but to come in to discuss the finer details etc.

good luck to you for Monday, I will keep everything crossed for you. Thanks again for taking the time to reply x

  • In case it's any consolation, I had a scan last month and got a letter a week later, saying to come in for an appointment to get my results, even though the staff had said at the time she would call me. I was worried there had to be something and called up myself to ask. It turned out the scan was completely clear, there were no problems at all, they'd just started back to face-to-face appointments after doing a lot of them by phone due to covid.
