Feeling stressed. Potential penile cancer?

Okay so this is a bit of a complicated post but here it goes.

Last December I had surgery to treat undescended testicles that had gone undiagnosed when I was younger, the surgery was successful but since then I've noticed some issues in the penile area.

One day in January I noticed that my foreskin had suddenly become puffy and inflated although it wasn't red and wasn't stuck. I was prescribed antibiotics by my GP which seemed to help and my foreskin was never that bad again. Although an area on the back part of my foreskin still gets a little puffy from time to time, it doesn't happen anywhere else on the foreskin and it's not always puffy. There's never any pain or bleeding either.

I've also started to get a bit of Smegma since this issue started, something that I didn't get before. My worry is that this is possibly penile cancer and if it's been there since January then it's even more worrying. The issue is that the foreskin does not always look abnormal so getting it checked by a GP may not do much as it may look normal on the day.

Just wondering if anyone here has any thoughts about the possibility of it being penile cancer?

  • Hi Terrierguy.  Welcome to the forum.

Penile cancer is pretty rare; for young men (below age 30 or so), there's a one in a million chance.

Checking the symptoms on the NHS web site, what you describe doesn't really fit the symptoms they list.  Since antibiotics helped before, maybe you have an infection and it hasn't quite cleared up, or it's left behind a bit of scarring.

Rather than worry, I think you should make an appointment to see your GP and get checked out.  Perhaps you could take a photo of the affected area when it's looking bad - just be careful what you do with the image file!

  • I did mention it to the GP when I went for an appointment to review the surgery I'd had, he said it seems like a bit of fluid may be there. Also said that it should probably clear up by Mid march, it's now mid April and it still pops up every now again. There is never any pain, bleeding or discharge which is probably a good sign. Although there is sometimes a bit of discoloration under the foreskin. There are also some flat brown marks that appear to be under the skin, they popped up in January although they haven't increased in number since then.

It was at its worst in January when I first noticed it, I actually got a bit of a fright because it looked like my foreskin had been blown up like a balloon. It's never become as bad as it was then but it's still something that plays on my mind every now and again.

  • See your GP.  It's probably nothing serious, but you'll continue to worry about it until you get checked out.
