Could this be lymphoma!?

Hi so basically I'm 19, I have had a growth in my armpit I call it a growth instead of a lump because it's fatty and soft. I have had it for 3 years and it's gotten bigger although it looks like it has stopped growing, it hurts sometimes, sometimes not which is weird. I have been to the doctors she just said it looked like a lipoma and needed removing however since then it had started hurting now and then, so we rung up the doctors and over the phone they did a check up so of course she couldn't really see what it looked like or felt like. She thinks it could be a infection and is giving me tablets which I'm going to receive soon if they don't work I'll go from there. What's really conflicting is the two different opinions and there not being a proper inspection done it might be nothing but it hasn't gone down in three years I'm going to take these tablets then see!

  • Hi Hutleyvil. Welcome to the forum.

I think that a single lump that's been there for three years is unlikely to be cancer.  If it was, you'd have known about a long time ago.

Lipomas (harmless fatty lumps) can get infected, so taking antibiotics is a sensible precaution. I suggest you ask the doctor to arrange for the lump to be removed whenever the NHS can do it.  I had a lump (not a lypoma) removed from my forearm back in the year 2000. It was done under local anaesthetic and I never felt a thing, either during or after.  The whole process took 15 minutes. It left a nice scar for a couple of years but now it's completely faded away.
