Lump in neck and aches/cramps in hands

Two weeks ago I noticed a lump halfway down my neck on the left. I spoke to my GP and they advised I wait 3/4 weeks as it sounds like swollen gland and could go away on its own in that time but they would get me an ultrasound if it's still there after that time.

I've been worried as i wouldnt say I've had any obvious illness that would bring it on but I know this isn't always the case. I did have my first covid vaccine 6 days before I noticed it so wondered if that could be linked.

Since speaking to my Dr I've had aches at the base of my head, down the side of my neck where the swelling is and across my shoulders. It comes and goes and isn't terrible but uncomfortable. The last couple of days my hand has felt slightly crampy and achey and occasionally my arm/armpit and I'm not sure if this is linked or I'm just worrying about everything now. The Dr did tell me to get back in touch if I needed but I don't want to freak out as I know I get anxious about these things more than I should (hence ending up here for advice)

Has anyone any experience of these symptoms or think I should contact my Dr again? I'm thinking I should just wait until she advised and go from there but I'm so fed up of worrying that I might have something more serious.

Thanks for any help/experiences.

  • Hi Lisa2007,

It can sometimes be easy to group lots of symptoms together into one thing, but they may not be related. As the GP has given you a timescale of 3-4 weeks, it sounds like the best thing would be to wait and see how things go during that time, and then to make an appointment after if it's still there.

If doing this, try to limit how much you check it - to weekly for example. Also try to keep your mind off it by keeping busy, finding distractions, doing things you enjoy, and so on.

Of course if you experience any new worrying or debilitating symptoms then you can give your GP a call again if you feel it helps to put your mind at ease.

    Wishing you all the best,
