Cancelled colonoscopy

Hi

im new on here. A little about me ... I'm 44 years old and have been bleeding and passing large clots recralky now for 16 months ... after another visit to A&E they've discovered a mass in my bowel (don't know if it's cancer but by grandad died if bowel cancer) and my colon is severely twisted ... I was due to have a colonoscopy two weeks ago and it got cancelled due to Covid-19 and doctor wasn't available... they rescheduled it for this Friday 19th and I've just had a phone call about 1/2 hour ago to tell me it's cancelled due to emergencies in the hospital ...

My mental health is severely suffering and I have been drinking to excess and on all kinds of severe painkillers which don't work ... I look l Iike I'm 9 months pregnant with quads and I'm in so much pain I've started smoking hash to try and numb it ... I don't think I can cope much longer and feel like taking my own life ... it sounds selfish but I'm at my wits end and can't cope

  • I'm very sorry to read your post TangoandCash. It sounds like you've been through quite a lot over the last year or so and it will, understandably, take it's toll.

As you're in so much pain and have mentioned suicidal thoughts it may be time to reach out to your GP and let them know how difficult life is for you right now and explain the impact this is having on your mental health. They are there to help and I'm sure they will do all they can to support you at this time. Also, the Samaritans are just a phone call away on 116 123. They are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week so again, if you need or want to talk to someone about what you're going through they are there for you.

If you feel comfortable doing so, do think about letting a close family member or friend know what's going on. I know it can be difficult to feel or stay connected with others during the pandemic but I'm sure they would want to do everything they can to help you through this difficult time.

Our community are here for you as well Tangoandcash and I'm sure others who have faced similar obstacles on their journeys will stop by when they can to offer their support and advice to you as well.

In the meantime, we're thinking of you and sending lots of strength and big virtual hugs your way.

    Kind regards,

  • I've moved house three weeks ago and am not yet registered with a gp where I live ... I explained when they called to cancel my op that's it's taken a massive toll on my mental health to which they replied 'I'm sorry' ... this doesn't solve anything

  • Hello TangoandCash

I'm really sorry to hear about all that you've been dealing with. It's understandable that you're struggling and that you want some resolution to the problems.

I can see that [@Moderator Steph]‍ has signposted you in her reply with some sources of support for your mental health. I'd encourage you to get in touch with a local GP surgery tomorrow morning and get the ball rolling with registration. Having a GP that you can contact for support with managing your pain more effectively and chasing up hospital appointments will be key in moving things forward.

Don't be afraid to reach out to the Samaritans or those around you for help and support as well.

I do hope that things improve for you soon.

    Best wishes,
