Waiting is driving me crazy

I had my biopsies last week and my CT scan yesterday and I am on tenterhooks waiting to hear if I have cancer.  I dont know when I am likely to hear but I'm really hoping it will be today. But it might not be until next Friday.

How long is the usual wait?  Can they tell you ov er the phone or do they have to write to you?  I know they are discussing my treatment plan (if any) at a meeting next Thursday but if they already have the results will they let me know sooner?

I am on pins waiting.  Would it be ok to call them?  Ijust dont know what to do.

  • Hi Angela,

I rang the hospital, speak to the doctors secretary or PALs and explain that your're very anxious and ask if you could have your results as soon as possible.  I did this and the doctors secretary was very helpful, she chased up the results and my surgeon rang me.  I had an MRI scan one week and a CT scan the next and waited in total just over a week (MRI took longer, CT results were back in 3 days).

    Good luck :-)

  • Just spoken with my consultants secretary who advised CT results back but not biopsy despite that being done a week before the CT.  How long does it take for biopsy results to come back!

I'm not blessed with patience and I am going crazy!

  • I waited ages for my biopsy results.  They knew whilst I was in hospital but chose not to tell me until 2 weeks after I was discharged at a face to face meeting with the surgeon, I think this was because I'd had major surgery and was still recovering.  Just keep chasing them up with the secretary.  If you're having any issues getting results, contact PALS team in the hospital and explain you're very anxious and ask if they can expedite your results.  PALs helped me twice bringing forward appointments as I was so anxious.
