Possible gastric cancer?

Brief background I'm 19 with no family history of stomach cancer but I'm half Japansese and it's more common there. My grandma has also had breast cancer twice and my grandad died from a brain tumour when my dad was 15. I know it's highly unlikely but I'm scared I have possible gastric cancer. I have had indigestion every couple of weeks starting October 2018 after going to Venice and over indulging in pasta (I think). My mum always said it was probably gastritis and my only symptom was burning in my upper abdomen that went away after 4 hours so I never went to my GP. At the end of january I was reffered to ENT on the cancer pathway because of a swollen tonsil. This seemed to make my problem flare up and since the 6th of February I have had burning pretty much constantly along with it radiating across my chest and back, hiccuping whenever I drink water, nausea, inconsistent bowel movements (look different everyday with small amount of mucus the past few days), feeling of gas in my stomach and some weight loss (around 5kg since Christmas). I was prescribed omeprazole but it didn't really help and am now waiting for coeliac disease and inflammatory marker blood test. My doctor, of course, said it's highly unlikely and isn't even considering it but I'm terrified that I've just left it too late.

  • Hi,

Hope you will find out what is happening with your body, it is very uncomfortable not knowing what's causing the problem.

I have been suffering from similar very similar symptoms.

it all started last year in February with severe chest pain (chest bone and felt like it radiates into the throat) my tongue was itchy constantly. sometimes I would have rush coming on my wrists. chest felt like something is tearing apart from inside. I was very scared at the time and rung 111 and they sent me to A&E they done ECG and X-RAY of my chest (lungs) All fine clear. they put it down to it's just a cold / flu. I just carried on treating it like cold-like symptoms for a couple of months but nothing seemed to work. so I called my GP and she said it most likely Acid Reflux (GERD) and prescribed Omeprazole. which I took for around 4 months with no success treating the symptoms.

I kept complaining to my GP for hoping that she would finally start investigating what's happening to me and my body.  They finally got the Blod these done which surprisingly came back with no action needed.

GP prescribed antihistamine and discontinued omopresole ( also no change or effect on symptoms)

Changed may all diet to healthy ( no coffee no tea no alcahole) no change to symptoms so far)

Then I started to feel the pain in may side under the jaw above adam's apple itchy ear. accompanied with green, brown mucus (sometimes with streeks of bload in it. and got referred for endoscopy on June 2020 was waiting till January 2021 to find out its only telephone interview with Dr. very unhelpful.

Now waiting for routine endoscopy god knows how long will it take (starting to feel depressed)

Spoke to my GP again and asked her whats been said from the interview. Cancer is not ruled out, that put me over the top and hanged up on her.

hope you find answers to your issue soon

    Matiss

  • Hi Matiss,

Did you get to the bottom of your symptoms?

I am going through the same thing and feeling absolutely petrified, it's so hard to keep bad thoughts out :(
