Possible Lymphoma and Biopsy

Hi Everyone,

Like anyone I worry! Basically I found a lump in my neck in January. When I came back to uni last month I went to the doctors who had done some bloods that found my liver and white blood cells were a little elevated. So the doctor had a fell and put me through on an urgent referral to see a haematology consultant. Today I had that appointment. The doctor said the lump wasn't that big and that my bloods suggested it was reactive. He has told me I will have an ultrasound with a possible biopsy and will then have a phone call appointment with him in 3 weeks. My concern is this is still fast paced and if he thought it was nothing I wouldn't be having an ultrasound. I guess I'm worried. I also feel rather confused as I don't really know if that was a positive or negative appointment. I am extremely tired and am currently on a placement in a school and finding it quite tough.

I want to know your experiences of everything so please if you feel comfortable I would love to hear them.

Robyn xx

  • Hey!

I had no symptoms of cancer but found a lump on my neck. My liver and spleen were checked with ultrasound and they were normal. My bloods were taken frequently and I was always told no further action needed.

the one thing that worried me was that I had just given birth and the lumps were totally painless.

Finally - after months I was listened to and just before our first family Christmas I was diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkin's lymphoma bulky disease.

I don't want to worry you but I honestly feel be reassured that everything is quick paced, the experts will know more when you get an ultrasound and biopsy.
firthermore, the treatment is so effective for most and I am being cured even though it was in my lung and the nodes are massive. The treatments out there are amazing today!

hope you're doing okay otherwise - take it easy and follow your gut.

  • Thank you for your reply! I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis, I hope you are ok. I do feel like something is wrong, i'm so so tired all the time which a bedtime of 7pm for a 22 year old i'd say is abnormal and also I am losing a bit of weight not loads but my clothes are getting baggy and if anything ive eaten so unhealthy recently i wouldve thought i'd put on weight! I also feel like my breathing is a little funky!

    Take care! Xx

  • I'm 27 and a primary teacher (don't know if that's what you are doing)

I never listened to any normal tests I never felt relieved that they kept telling me everything was normal. I always felt filled with aniexty and I had a cough in the end I couldn't shift. Turned out I have 12cm node in my right lung too. They blamed covid - always negative tests though but no one would come near me.

I felt the knowing was easier to handle than the not knowing. I wish people urged me through quicker.

I am almost half way through treatment the now and already my lumps on my neck have disappeared and the ones at my collarbone are softer at least.

  • I am honestly doing fine !

I listened to the experts after diagnosis and chemo isn't all fun but so far it's bearable and I have more good days than bad. I only now realise how progressive lymphoma was and now I realise how much easier it is to breathe. Crazy how much you don't notice as it works away in you.

Some symptoms you describe could be from your placements too. The stress won't help!

  • My placement only started yesterday *cry* these symptoms started a while ago now but its interesting to hear your perspective, I really do appreciate you sharing! x

  • I hope you don't think I am scaring you but I think your instinct can be your biggest strength.
Be reassured that you're being taken seriously, tests are being processed and treatment if it gets to that point is amazing these days.

Keep me posted on the outcome - I wish you the very best! X

  • Hi! So I had my ultrasound this morning which I was told it was nothing sinister so a biopsy was not done. Which is good news however I am just concerned about the other symptoms I am having as they are obviously not normal! X

  • I am so glad your ultrasound went well.

Absolutely. Please follow up with your GP of you feel something isn't quite right with you. Although I'm sure you'll have peace of mind now you know it's nothing serious, it may even be something inflammatory within you.

thanks for the update ! I also went for a PET scan and got told it came back negative meaning my cancer has gone but I need to continue with chemo until June to help prevent a relapse - worth it if it keeps it away.

  • I'm seeing my gp tomorrow as i sense something is wrong. I'm so itchy, im exhausted constantly, my breathing is a bit off and I just generally feel something is wrong. Good that your PET scan is clear! That is such good news!!

  • Have they checked your chest at all ? Maybe request that an X-ray or CT scan would put your mind at ease. That you feel your symptoms could signal something else and you can't continue with how you are feeling.

It is all absolutely true and it's your body so it's your right to get to the bottom of what's bothering you if not physically but mentally too.

Let me know how you get on.
