Most lumps are completely harmless - but you won't know until you visit your GP.

No one here can tell you what it is - only your GP can do that.

You'll continue to worry until you know - and if it's good news you'll be kicking yourself that you worried unnecessarily.  Or if it's bad news, you'll be kicking yourself that you delayed getting proper treatment for it.

Cancer is scary.  I've had cancer twice, and it scares me.  I think everyone here has been scared at some time.  But courage is doing something even though you're scared.

Don't delay any further - phone your GP today.

Thank you so much for replying, your reply meant that i went to the doctors today. They said i actually have multiple lymph nodes up round the back of my neck and a couple around the front. I am still worried as she didnt do any tests, but she said it's reassuring that the last blood tests i had, 8 months ago were perfectly healthy. She said because i have nasal congestion to get a spray, but im quite worried that she didnt do any tests or anything.

I'll just give my general reminder that I'm not a doctor and I have no medical qualifications. 

There are times when you have to leave complex problems in the hands of the professionals, and I think you now have to trust your GP.

The most common reason for swollen lymph nodes is an infection, and in my personal experience swollen nodes are often the only indication that I've got an infection.  So, relax and let the lymph nodes do their job and don't panic if they stay swollen for a while. 

I suggest that you should return to your GP if they've not settled down in another 4-6 weeks, or if you develop drenching night sweats, or start to lose weight, or find you're getting fatigued for no reason.  These symptoms could indicate an infection getting out of control, or (rarely) something more serious.

Getting cancer twice (prostate in 2010 and bladder in 2019) is not much fun, but both times it was caught early because I didn't waste any time seeing my GP and getting referred for more tests.  In fact, I've had a couple of other referrals which turned out not to be cancer - and actually 8-9 out of 10 of "urgent" cancer referrals turn out not to be cancer, so don't panic if you do find yourself referred.

Bearing in mind I'm not a doctor, can I also suggest you might also benefit from a bit of extra vitamin C and D and magnesium?  Don't take massive amounts, a standard one-a-day multimineral and vitamin from a supermarket should suffice. 

Thank you so much for replying, i supoose it was just a huge shock when she said therr were multiple nodes when i thought i could only feel one. I will keep an eye on them over the next month and if they stay there or grow i'll go back and ask for testing. 
 

and what an accomplishment beating cancer twice is, thats amazing! How are you now? Hope everything is fine with you

It doesn't feel like an accomplishment, and quite frankly it was the surgeons who did the curing - not me!  I'm doing pretty well; I'm hoping I won't need any more treatment, but if I do I'll just have to have it. To be honest, the prospect doesn't weigh too heavily on my mind at the moment.  It's strange what you can get used to...

I am really grateful to live in a country which has the great NHS. I looked up the prices of the operations I had, and a robotic radical prostatectomy would cost over $50,000 in the US, and a TURBT (bladder cancer) would cost over $5,000.  Even if you had health insurance, you'd still have to find 20% of that cost for "deductible".  Quite how anyone can afford these prices I don't know - and I really can't understand why so many Americans are against "socialised medicine". 

Anyway - enough about me.  I hope you're feeling a little happier and reassured now.  Your nodes will probably settle down over time, but if they don't then go back to the doctor, and don't be too worried even if you get an "urgent" referral.

Hey i hope your well, I decided to go to the doctors again after my first visit as i still felt anxious and unsatified, the nurse wanted to get the lumps checked due to the lengthy period of time they had been there so she booked me a ultra sound. It was a long and anxious few months of waiting for the scan but everything was fine !

I'm still doing just fine, thank you.  I had a clear cystoscopy about 8 weeks ago so nothing to worry about at the moment.  

It seems we're both doing ok.  Let's hope that long continues!
