‘That’ waiting stage.

Hello Everyone,

I've recently had a second breast biopsy (the first was inconclusive).

I'm now at 'that' waiting stage for the second time.

Trying to keep calm but I feel stuck in limbo.

Family, friends and colleagues have all been great but it feels harder to talk with them.

  • Hi [@kiwirunner]‍ and [@Kelsi]‍ ,

We all seem to be getting results at the same time. All very different too.

How are your boobs feeling since the biopsies and everything? Mine feels tight and the nerves are pinching in my armpit. My arm feels heavy too.
All the best and hugs to you both xx

  • I've been told the next step to remove the radial scar is a vacuum assisted biopsy.
Maybe you'll have something similar xx

  • Hi my boobs were really sore after the biopsies, I managed to lie down but couldnt get back up again!

Yes the hospital called today and explained the procedure. She said they will try first with ultrasound and remove it with the vacuum but if the area still has bruising from the biopsy they might need to do it in the mammogram machine to get a clearer look x

  • Hi [@kiwirunner]‍ and [@Kelsi]‍ , how have you both been?

I had my radial scar removed on Saturday. Appointment was brought forward from the 11th March. I hadn't received the original appointment date until Friday. No time to think about it which is good.
The whole thing took about an hour. This one was a bit uncomfortable...lots of LA! I also felt like I was doing gymnastics around the mammogram machine. I was very stiff yesterday. xx

  • Hi, my appointment is tomorrow to have my papillary lesion removed and I'm struggling tbh, got a dose of the shakes today, so glad yours is done now, that saves you hanging about waiting. Its vacuum assisted I also have to get, was it bad?xx

  • [@Kelsi]‍ you can do this! Mind over matter. xx

VAE wasn't too bad. It was uncomfortable at times. I had it done laying on my side, arm over my head and the other gripping the trolley underneath. Boob in mammogram machine. I thought I was going to fall off. My arm was blocking my ear so that dulled down any noise. The second marker was vacuumed out as well. That was a bit sharp as it came out. I had a few LA top ups this time.
I think they're getting busy, thankful to be seen early.

  • The consultant has told me they will try to remove it using the ultrasound, but if not it will be in the mammogram machine. That I'm dreading, as I have tiny boobs and they would be very lucky to fit them in it!

  • Hi [@Pinny79]‍ great to hear you've had your radial scar out! Your experience was just like my VAB biopsies in the mammogram machine. You kind of just suck it up while they are doing it but feel knackered afterwards! At least it is done.

[@Kelsi]‍ I know it it is easy to say not to worry but the staff will really look after you and the temporary discomfort with ultrasound or the mammogram version is not too bad- lots of local anaesthetic really helps while they chat away to you. I'm a 34DD so I had plenty to squash but they will be so experienced in working with boobs of all sizes. Good luck - I'm sure you'll do fine and it will be worth having it out.

I had my oncology meeting today. Waiting on HER2 result still but radiotherapy planned for around Easter and CT scan in two weeks to check anatomy and if deep breathing will work for me etc. Weird experience being in a waiting room knowing every person there had cancer.

    Take care both xx

  • Hi kiwirunner, thanks for your kind words, think its just the build up to things that worry me , I'll probably be fine when I actually get there.

It certainly sounds like you have been through a lot, and still you seem so positive, I hope all your results are good news, keep us updated xx

  • Hopefully the ultrasound will do the trick xx
