Neck nodes

For about a year i have had swollen nodes in my neck/ in front of my ears , they get sore from time to time , they are sore now but im having ( i think a attack of neuralgia), basically all my face on the right is sore / my ears /Jaw/ cheek bone and behind the eyes on both sides .

I do have 3 and a half teeth left on my right side and 1 on the left bottom ( thats all i have the rest are removable.

It worries me getting pain in the nodes and more so if i go to my gp hes just going to blame the nodes on the ear / jaw ect so im never going to get peace of mind for me .

Any advice ??

  • Hi Linda. Welcome to the forum.

I should start out by saying that we're not doctors here, and I'm not medically qualified.  We're mainly cancer patients (and their carers) who've picked up some knowledge.

Swollen lymph nodes are common.  They usually swell up in response to some infection, and it is certainly possible to get a sequence of infections, each one of which challenges the lymph nodes so they barely have time to settle down before the next infection occurs.  It is also true that we live in unusual times, and many people (including yours truly) are very badly stressed by the situation, and this stress manifests itself in a variety of different pains and other symptoms.

Since you've written to a cancer forum about swollen lymph nodes, I guess you're somewhat worried about the possibility of lymphoma.  What you might not know is that lymphoma is often (but not always) accompanied by a series of other symptoms, of which drenching night sweats is the most notable.  And by drenching, I mean they're so bad you have to change your night-clothes and bed sheets. Others are severe itching (not just the odd one), stomach ache, fever, unexplained weight loss, and a few others.

If you only have swollen nodes, then I suggest you visit your GP if one or more remain swollen for more than 4 weeks, or if the same node(s) keeps reappearing.  However, if you get any of the other symptoms I've mentioned, then I suggest you visit your GP without undue delay.  There are plenty of non-cancer diseases that can cause these symptoms so don't assume the worst.

I must remind you of the disclaimer I gave at the start. I'm not medically qualified, so don't let anything in this post stop you from visiting your GP if you think that's for the best.  Let your common sense be your guide.
