Clear smear, bleeding after sex, still waiting for Gyno

Note: I had a smear test back in 2019 which was clear.
It's been a long 6 months. It all started with constant urine infections, agony during periods and cramping mid way through my cycle. I was experiencing strange discharge too with brown stringy specs inbetween my periods. My doctors didn't care in the slightest. I kept reporting these issues and it wasn't until I had other physical issues elsewhere that I was allowed to see a doctor face to face. They gave me antibiotics which seemed to clear everything up.
Then I started experiencing spotting after sex. I went for an ultrasound which came up clear. Went back to the GP who did a pelvic exam which showed I had a lot of thrush due to the previous antibiotics... fun!
I've been referred to Gynaecology weeks ago...heard nothing back. The referral phone lines cut off, their voicemail is 'full' and people online are saying they have waited 18 WEEKS to be seen to or hear anything back. Meanwhile, the blood after sex is getting more and more. I am experiencing a lot of discomfort in my lower abdomen which is meaning i am living off of pain killers. I mentally am struggling every day. Getting out of bed is so so difficult, and honestly, it's taking all my strength to carry on. Every time my husband hints at sex, I just want to disappear. Seeing the blood every time is too much. Also feeling the urge to pee more too. Hearing the doctor say 'it's likely you're fine' does not help in the slightest after reading everybody elses experiences on here!

Sorry to be such a negative, but I feel like nobody is listening to me or taking it seriously

  • Hi HarriC,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to read of the difficulties you're experiencing at the moment. Naturally wait times are longer at the moment, but I appreciate that doesn't help you and especially with the lack of answers.

If you are having ongoing issues and you feel you're not getting anywhere, the only thing I can suggest is to try your hospital's switchboard and ask to be put through to the relevant department. Alternatively you can go back to your GP to ask when to expect an appointment, and also to raise your further concerns about your symptoms if appropriate, to see if there's anything they can do to speed things up.

I hope you're able to find out more soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Could have written this myself!!

except I've not been referred to gynae, just told my ultrasound was normal, so....

basically just put up with it!

have you managed to be seen yet?

    hope your ok xxx

  • Hi!!

Oh my goodness I hope your journey goes smoothly!! It's crazy how we're told 'the chances are blah blah' but it doen't help you switch off from it all.

I'd had enough and booked a private consultation (was £200), literally the very next day went in to see the doctor (which was this last Thursday) and during the exam, I bled a lot. She said she could see slight irritation due to Cervical Erosion - so am due to have my mini op on the 7th April to burn away the cells... I don't know how much this will be. But she's also taking a biopsy to ensure its nothing more sinister.

So overall, it's so much better than I had feared but also going to be waiting on that biopsy before i relax again. I'm hoping yours will be too! It sucks to have had to pay out, but it's worth it for the mental health!

    xxx

  • Hi did you see a consultant and was you okay I'm going through the same and bleeding and in pain waiting for a referal and am so worried I have all same as you hope everything turned out ok. Best wishes

  • Hiya,

so originally I just saw the GP who did a basic pelvic exam. On Thursday I saw a private Gynecologist who is the one going to perform the cell removal and biopsy.

Im so sorry you're in pain! It's so frustrating that there isn't a faster way to get to a gynecologist right now on the NHS.

But! Hopefully yours isn't serious as Erosions are quite common apparently! X

  • I'm thinking of Going private too!
The Gp originally said slight ecropian and he agreed when I had my transvaginal ultrasound.

however like I say they've not Made any other suggestions as the ultrasound was otherwise normal and I had a clear smear around 14 months ago!

so frustrating! Glad your having further reassurance! Let us know how it goes! Xxx

  • I would recommend it as it's so good to have clarity and not be in fear for so long!

it's so good you had that confirmation. What I'm wondering is how my transvaginal was all clear but have this constant bleed - it makes me loose a bit of trust in testing tbh!

Will do! Hope your journey goes super smoothly and we can all be happy and healthy again soon! Xxx
