Playing the waiting game - Endometrial Biopsy

Hello

I has a biopsy done 15/01 so I'm half way through that 2 week wait. Thought I was being really strong but since the biopsy I'm waking up many times a night. Not sure if it's stress or pain as still have an awful dull ache. I'm post menopause and this week my hot flushes have been bad, hot water bottle to help with pain obviously doesn't help.

I cried most of the day yesterday and ended up taking the day off work. Just feel drained now as given myself a migraine from crying. Just had enough as it's been a rough few years.

This part of my journey started in 2017. Had peri menopause symptoms- uti's, pain etc. Was referred for a scan in 2018. Showed thickening of womb lining but GP wasn't concerned, referred me to gynaecologist anyway. 5 days before the appointment my Dad passed away. I went to appointment and they said they wanted to put a camera in and talked about endometriosis and a Mirena coil. I thought you've got this all wrong as I've never had heavy periods and had tried a mirena coil 15 years before, caused migraine and bleeding.

Day of dad's funeral I found a lump in my breast so that took over. Luckily it was a cyst.

Spent the next few months moving Mum and brother 250 miles. Moved ourselves in Feb 2019. In May 2019 my Grandad was diagnosed with blood cancer and passed away the following month. Then my Auntie became ill and passed away in November 2019. Mum ended up in icu in Feb 2020 with pneumonia and sepsis. Been a busy time.

I started to feel under the weather last April so tried HRT.  6 days in and I had excruciating pain and what I thought was breakthrough bleeding. Through the next few months I had period type pains but no more heavy bleeding. Had the odd spotting but put that down to HRT. The period type pain was worse then when I used to get periods so in November I went back to GP. The HRT was also causing migraine so they stopped that. Gave me antibiotics in case of water infection.

December 18th I saw a female GP who was more understanding. I've been having bladder pressure feeling and pain for a few months by then. The pain can often be in both legs too and then sitting at work could be uncomfortable. She referred me for another ultrasound but advised any thickening and I would need to go back to gynaecologist.

30/12 had my trans ultrasound. He said there was a little thickening but he would send report. Report was back on 4/1 but had to wait for a dr to look at it. Showed that my lining is 9mm and I have a 20mm polyp.

15/01 saw gynaecologist who performed a biopsy. Waiting on the results.

They have advised I can have the polyp removed through a hysteroscopy or just watch and wait. So I would have to have regular scans and biopsies if I watch and wait. In fairness I don't want to leave a polyp there as I know they are mostly benign but know they can change and I imagine it's the same for thickening.

just want to hide away at the minute and I'm lacking motivation. GP told me to go for a run when I called yesterday to check if the pain I'm still having is normal and to speak about my low mood. Found him really unhelpful.

Hope everyone else who is playing the waiting game gets good news x

  • Hello DonDon1973,

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum. The waiting game is often described here as the hardest thing. I hope you won't have to wait too long for your biopsy results. I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you while waiting for these important results. I thought I would share with you this link on how to cope with waiting for news which I hope will have some good tips to help you get through the days ahead.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious. Perhaps you could ask to talk to another GP if you see you are really struggling mentally with this and need some help.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  • I had a period on 5 January after 369 days no period. As I am 51 I assumed I was going through menopause. Anyway referred to gynae on 2 week wait and had a TVS scan done where they found my endometrium to be 10.6. So I had a hysteroscopy on same morning where they found a polp which I had removed and they took a sample of the tissue of my endometrium. Now awaiting results...up to 2/3 weeks. Procedure was tolerable but since yesterday I have left side soreness/pain half way up my abdomen.

  • Hi I understand how it feels,  I had post menopausal(its been 15years since my menopause ended) bleeding on 5th Dec, I eent to ADOC as it was weekend, he didnt have any gynae equipment so couldnt examine me and I had to wait til the Monday to call and see my GP. She sent an urgent referral to Gynae Consultant and I waited 5 weeks, then I just got the call from Gynae Consultant's secretary on Fri 8th of January to give me appt on Monday 11th.  At hospital I had a transverse ultrasound (I think thats what its called), and then a Hysteroscopy, an internal examination and then biopsy was taken cause he found something in the wall of uterus/womb.  All within the hour.  After that he told me about all he had done and the couple of things it can be, because I didnt get a letter or anything before, too much to remember.  My brain was frazzled I forgot to ask how long the wait for results is, as too much info to remember.  I'm still feeling sick every day and my head at night is worse.

I called his secretary the next day as we can't sleep with all the worry and she said if its urgent, well it better be, it will be at least 4 weeks until results come in.  I still havent slept properly.

I'm in Scotland so its different from in England, we don't have a set date to be seen urgently for some unknown reason.  Sorry this is so long winded.

I'm glad you will hear soon. Take care and all the best, Jen.
