Ovarian cyst and raised ca125

Hello

I have a history of ovarian cysts for over 10 years due to endometriosis. The last operation I had was in 2014 and since then I've been ok. Recently my periods have gone extremely painful so I asked if I could be checked for a cyst as I knew the signs. Ultrasound found a 5.5cm fluid filled cyst so I was sent for ca125 bloods which have come back slightly raised. Waiting for a 2 week referral now and worrying. I had a basal cell removed from my face 18 months ago and at 36 I was young to have that.

Does anyone have any experience of anything similar? I'm wondering what the next steps will be in terms of tests. I've had the blood test with previous cysts and they've always come back normal in the past.

  • Hi Missumi

i am in the same state of anxiety. Had scan yesterday which shows massive cyst on one ovary. I was relieved it was a cyst and that it would be fine. However gynaecologist called straight away to say he is not happy with the way it looks and wants urgent CT scan and blood test to check for Tumor. I am 60 and never had children so my risk is raised. I am having blood tests today and CT in 3 days so will now by next week. I am lucky to have private health care from my employer so have been seen quickly however the waiting and anxiety is unbearable so I know exactly how you feel. I have a deep faith and am approaching this with positivity and hope. It's all I can do while I wait. I hope your results will be ok and that we are both going to be ok

  • Hi Meetski

Thanks for replying. It's the waiting that is so hard isn't it? It's good that you are getting seen so quickly. I'm hoping there are no delays for me with the covid situation.

Sending positive thoughts to you and hope you get answers soon and positive results.

  • Hi missuni

i am a little upset because yesterday they told me I had nothing to worry about snd then this morning g they tell me it looks suspicious. Just had bloods done snd CT on Saturday. The wait is killing me. I just want to know. I am sure you are the same. I know these things take time but the waiting is unbearable.  Let me know how you get on. It's good to know I am not alone. Sending you lots of positive vibes too x

  • Hi im in similar boat but they think it may actually be something nasty so they holding a meeting today to discuss what type of scan and tests to do next, my case is very complex as ive got very bad scarring from previous surgery and they said surgery would be too dangerous, however i would like to tell you something reassuring cysts do cause elevated ca 125 levels anyway and so does endometriosis  so try not to think the worst. I hope this helps but I know exactly what you are going through, I may hear tomorrow or friday whats going to happen with me. I hope you find out soon.

  • Hi Chrissy

Sorry to hear you are going through this too. I hope you find out quickly. Its the not knowing and waiting that is so hard.
That's reassuring to know about the blood test. I've had huge benign cysts that I had to have drained in the past and my bloods were always normal so I'm just worrying this time.

Trying to keep busy while I wait and thinking positive.

Its horrible waiting for answers. I too have had very large cysts in past and never a word said  about cancer in the past. I really hope you hear something soon. Im just so glad theres forums like these and we can talk to people going through the same thing. I'll update my story as it unfolds and will follow your story. Sending positivity and light.
