Throat Problems

Hi,

I just wanted to see if anyone has ever been hpv positive (during a smear) and had throat problems at the same time?
Seems an odd/stupid question however I'm currently in that predicament.
Colposcopy results were clear (massive relief) however, I have a swelling behind my right tonsil which hasn't cleared with any antibiotic no matter the stregnth. Since August 2020. The tonsil itself has also grown bigger than the left and I'm constantly in pain on that side whilst also having pain in the neck and ear.
I'm waiting for an MRI scan, I think they'll be removing the tonsils to check everything is ok (once scan is done and looked at) but with the high risk HPV diagnosis I'm terrified it's cancer.
Has anyone ever found this to be possible?

I should add, I'm also experiencing a lot of abdominal pain during this time, I've had three blood tests and everything was normal apart from a drop in iron (requiring tablets) but bloods don't always tell you everything.

  • Hello Jade,

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum. I hope you won't have to wait too long for your MRI scan. It's great news that your colposcopy results were clear but I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you while waiting now to find out what is going on with your tonsil.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. Your doctor will be in the best position to explain things to you and to answer questions you may have as to whether the high risk HPV diagnosis has anything to do with this or whether it is totally unrelated. Do mention to your doctor too  that you are worried about this abdominal pain you have been experiencing. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about all this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
