Awaiting breast biopsy results and scared

Hello, I don't really know what the point of posting is but I am going out of my mind constantly googling and trying to find information which might give me more of an idea of what I'm dealing with. If anyone has any experience with any of this, please message!

I found a lump in my breast about a week before Christmas. I went to the gp who referred me to the breast clinic under the 2 week rule. I was lucky to get an appointment quickly and was seen sat Thursday. I was really hoping they'd say it was a fibroadenoma or something but the sonographer said she could not tell if it was cancer or not, that it was not obviously one thing or another. So I had three biopsies of the area. This has really thrown me and I am so anxious. I feel like she was just trying not to worry me, does anyone know how likey it is that she wouldn't be able to tell what it is from an ultrasound?

Im 36 and have 2 young boys, 3 and 5 and the worst part is that my husband was diagnosed with net bowel cancer in September. Things are going well with his treatment but it's been an awful three months and there is still a long way to go with liver surgery planned in next month or so (COVID dependant).

I just don't know how much more I can take. Trying to stay strong and positive but my mind keeps going to dark places and I'm convinced I have cancer and that it's quite advanced. The lump is 3cm and I have an almost constant dull ache in my boob and down my side. Surely that must be related. I've told a few friends but none are really asking me about how I am feeling as I don't think they believe it could be anything, or just don't want to make me worry more by going to that place. I feel very alone.

Thanks for reading. I have 7-10 working days for

the results to come through and will need to go to

the clinic to receive them. I assume I will have to

go on my own, which I think is so cruel! Has anyone been able to take someone with them for results?

  • Hi Lucy,

Just wanted to ask, did you ever get an explanation about the dull ache in the side of your body, or find out whether it was the cancer causing it? I've been diagnosed for a week now (grade 3, triple negative, waiting for my CT full body scan as some lymph nodes were a bit swollen), and I have the same symptoms as you, keep getting an ache/sharp shooting pains just where the lump is. I've read how a lot of women get these aches and pains when they first get diagnosed, but this feels so real, so I'm not sure if it is in my head or not! I'm also convinced the lump is getting bigger; I'm just desperate for treatment to start!

    Best wishes,

    Nicola.

  • Hi Nicola,

That dull ache must have had something to do with the lump as I was diagnosed after this. I started chemo on the 1st feb and finished end of May. That feeling went away pretty quickly I think. It has been really tough but it's do able, you will be ok. Just take each day at a time and get as much help as you can. If you want any more info about my experiences feel free to pm me! Xx
