2 week wait - breast cancer

Hi,

I am hoping for some guidance or advice from you lovely people. On the 29th I went to GP after finding a large lump in right breast on Boxing Day and then found another near chest wall a few hours later - nurse checked me over, said instantly we need to refer to breast clinic as feels like hard tissue or mass. Since then the pain has been constant, it is ever so tender and now swollen too on the side where lump is closest to skin. You can feel lump really easily now whereas before you had to feel around so this is making me even more scared! It feels like it's getting progressively worse and it's killing me waiting for an appointment, it's my 24th birthday tomorrow and never felt so frightened and sad. Xx

  • Hi

    Hi Missrose,

I have had a similar wait and know just how distressing this can be. The way that you're feeling is unfortunately, perfectly normal given the circumtances.

Waiting is always stressful, but try to distract yourself from the wait by keeping busy and, whatever you do, steer clear of the internet until you know what you are dealing with.

Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kindest regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Paigey,

I am so glad to hear that your appointment has come through without delay and, that you will soon get some answers. Try to keep yourself busy to distract yourself from the wait and , whatever you do, steer clear of the internet until you know what you're dealing with.

I am still hoping for good news.

    Kindest regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thanks so much Jolamine - since we last spoke my breast got increasingly swollen and sore to touch with strange sensations in the nipple area which to be frank scared the living hell out of me. The nurse has prescribed with antibiotics 3 days ago (not much change yet) in the hope it helps and reassured me that breast pain is not usually associated with cancer and so I am trying to cling to that. I got my letter today and it said breast surgery? Could you tell me if this is normal as it left a pit in my stomach and also leaflets regarding cancer in the envelope too?! I am holding my breath for Monday afternoon in the hope I get good news - I haven't told anybody yet as I just can't face it but I'm so scared to go alone, damn this covid! Xx

Thank you again for all your reassurance and kind words x

    Hi Paigey,

I am so sorry to hear that your breast pain has flared up since your last post and hope that the antibiotics help with this

. Yes it is perfectly normal for your letter to say breast surgery, so please don't panic. You will be seen by a breast surgeon who will examine your breasts and, may then send you for an ultrasound and possibly a mammogram (depending upon your age). They don't usually carry out a mammogram at your age, because the breasts in younger people tend to be too dense to give a good image. You may then have a biopsy taken. This is usually sent away and it can take 1-2 weeks to get the results of these tests.

It is scary having to attend by yourself, but you will find that the staff at these clinics are usually all very pleasant and reassuring. Don't forget to ask when your results are likely to be back before you leave. You will often find that the clinic will allow you to bring someone with you when you return for the results.

A lot of people don't like to tell anyone until they know exactly what they're dealing with, but it can be difficult to keep it to yourself at this stage.

I shall be thinking of you on Monday and hope that all turns out well. Don't forget to let us know how you get on.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Paige

Sending you hugs and blessings let us know how you get on

    Paris xxx

  • Thanks so much that's ever so kind of you I will pop on soon as possible and let you know how I get on xxxx

  • Hi Paris,

I wanted to pop on and let you know I got on fine today, and hope it gives you some peace of mind they said it was a small cyst and an island of glandular tissue she explained it's totally normal for my age and also normal to hurt and be tender especially around your period or before it begins they did an ultrasound and were ever so good at showing me everything and explaining it. I truly hope the outcome is the same/similar for you but do please let me know I will continue to follow this thread x

I've also be referred for genetic testing as my mum and grandma both have the BRCA gene so I will find out more then too and hopefully be able to make an informed decision and rid any future risks at this point.

Thank you to everybody and your kind words xxxx
