2 week wait - breast cancer

Hi,

I am hoping for some guidance or advice from you lovely people. On the 29th I went to GP after finding a large lump in right breast on Boxing Day and then found another near chest wall a few hours later - nurse checked me over, said instantly we need to refer to breast clinic as feels like hard tissue or mass. Since then the pain has been constant, it is ever so tender and now swollen too on the side where lump is closest to skin. You can feel lump really easily now whereas before you had to feel around so this is making me even more scared! It feels like it's getting progressively worse and it's killing me waiting for an appointment, it's my 24th birthday tomorrow and never felt so frightened and sad. Xx

  • Hi

Just read your post and sending you love.  I was diagnosed 4 years ago stage 3 and I'm 73 years old.

It's easier to say than do but try to be confident.  The way you describe your lump as becoming bigger and sore quickly, sounds a lot like an inflamed cyst which would account for the rapid growth and the pain.

Sadly worrying ourselves silly doesn't help and an old soul like myself says, tears give you wrinkles but a pretty 24 year old smile can light up a room as I'm sure yours does.

My granddaughter had similar at around your age and it turned out to be what's called a Breast Mouse.  She was worried because of family history but she was fine.

Take care and try to stay positive

    Best wishes

    Kathy

    Hi Nicnoo,

    Hi Paigey,

Welcome to the forum. I am so sorry to hear about your concerns, but glad to hear that you have taken the right moves to get your lumps checked out. You should be seen within 2 weeks, but this can take a little longer in some areas due to the impact of the current pandemic and the Festive holidays. I do hope that your appointment comes through soon.

There are a number of different reasons for breast lumps and, at your age, I hope that there is nothing sinister present.

This is always a worrying time. Try to keep busy to help the waiting time pass and steer clear of the internet, until you know what you're dealing with.

I have just read Kathy's reassuring post and hope that she is right about these just being cysts. Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

I have everything crossed for good news.

    Kindest regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • I'm in Scotland and I was referred 6 weeks ago. My app is in two weeks time.  8 weeks which makes me so anxious. I'm in my late 40s , maternal grandmother had breast cancer. I am also in constant pain I'm dreading going back to work on wed . No lumps but i have swelling under my armpit , on my collar bone , shoulder and my arm has swollen and my nipple is extremely cut etc.
It's horrible waiting to be seen I can't function properly and I keep breaking down  , good luck xx

  • Hi Missrose,

I'm so sorry to hear your in pain too, and you've waited so long for your appointment I can only imagine the torment! I'm so glad you have yours now though, please do pop on if you get a chance and let us know how you get on??
Perhaps maybe your GP can give you something in the meantime for the pain or some advice as it's sounds like your in such discomfort. It really is such a horrible limbo, we can only hope xxx

Sending love and positivity your way x
