Waiting on ultrasound results - testicular cancer

Hi all.

I am a 39 y/o and went for an ultrasound on Monday and now awaiting results. My scan was arranged within a week.

Had a dull ache in my right testicle to begin with and it felt swollen (just bigger than usual) but no lump per se. A few weeks later I developed the same sort of ache in my left testicle. I have had lower back pain and pain in my groin area as well to accompany this. A few days ago I also started with chest pain which feels like a pulled muscle on the left side. It seems to be more problematic in bed at night. I am so consumed by it all, finding it really difficult to switch off. The lady that did the ultrasound said that everything was fine when I asked if she could see anything on the scan at the end, and that my results would be sent to my GP in 5-7 working days but I imagine she's meant to say that type of thing if asked directly?

Just waiting now to see what the results are then next steps... so worrying.

  • Hi Adam.j.  Welcome to the forum.

No. She would NOT say that everything was fine if there was a problem.  If she said everything was fine then you can stop worrying.

However, what she saw on the scan still requires a detailed report that will be sent to your GP to be added to your records. No doubt that report will be full of technical jargon which your GP understands but which we mere mortals don't.

  • Thanks for your reply... that is reassuring. I think I may have quoted wrong though,  what I think she said was "there's nothing to worry about" not that "everything's fine" would that make a difference?

No results yet... they're taking around two weeks my GP surgery has said.

I am really struggling with the back pain which now radiates down my legs so I imagine further investigation needed if results are indeed clear.

  • Yes, that could make a difference.  It might mean that she did find something that needed to be reported, but nothing that should worry you.  We all have some anomalies which get picked up by a scan, but which don't really matter.   I had a CT last year which found an aneurysm on one of my kidneys.  They rescanned it a few months ago and it hadn't changed so they concluded it was nothing to worry about.

I suggest you pester your doctor about the back pain.
