You could phone your GP and ask whether you could be referred to a clinic with a shorter waiting period, preferably a one-stop shop which will do the mammogram and all the tests on the same day.  You may have to travel further.

The waiting period itself is unlikely to make things worse, but of course the actual waiting can be a terrible ordeal - most of us here have been through that.
