Unexplained lump above collarbone

Hi everyone,

I hope this post is okay, I'm not sure what's wrong with me and I don't want to offend those who have been diagnosed but I'm so anxious right now. I'm 20 years old, and I'm at university right now. About 4.5 weeks ago, I found a small lump above my collarbone on the left side. It feels about 1cm and is oval shaped, smooth and I can move it around easily. I noticed it the day after I had a flu jab so just thought it as an effect of that. It hadn't gone away in a week so I phoned the GP and they agreed to phone in three weeks. Three weeks later and it was still there, they ordered some bloods which all came back clear. They've referred me for an ultrasound after examining it - he said it felt like a lymph node and that from feeling it there shouldn't be anything to worry about. I just keep jumping to the worst conclusions and thinking that I have lymphoma, because I've had really bad fatigue for the past few months. I had glandular fever in summer 2019, and I'm so scared that it could have caused lymphoma. So sorry for the ramble, I just don't know what else it could be apart from that.

  • So glad to hear that - it must be a big relief!
Mine is slowly reducing so I am feeling more relaxed now. Thanks for keeping us updated

  • I think the nodes go down much quicker with some people

  • Mine is definitely smaller now too.

I thought it would flush in one go sort of thing but it seems that it's going to slowly go down.

  • I have been finding these posts really helpful and so I thought I would post my experience too. I had the AstraZeneca vaccine on the 1st April in my left arm. On the 9th April I discovered I had a swollen lymph node nestled next to my left collarbone. It was about 1.5cm, mobile and softish. I don’t know how I discovered it because it is not an area I thought I touched very much. I also don’t know how long it had been there for. I went to see my GP on the 26th April. The lump hadn’t changed in size at that point. She arranged a blood test and told me to wait another couple of weeks to see if it shrinks, before coming back. During that wait, the lump began to diminish in size but it is a very slow process. I saw the GP again on the 10 May and she was pleased that it had gone down in size by about half. The lump is still mobile and soft. My blood was all fine. She has told me to come back again if the lump doesn’t keep diminishing but seemed happy that it is more than likely due to the vaccine. I do feel relieved that it is getting smaller but it is taking a long time.

  • It does seem to take different amounts of time for different people. Mine is slowly getting smaller. Two weeks since it first appeared.

  • I'm so glad I've found these posts. I had my 2nd Pfizer jab Friday 30th April. The next day my collarbone felt tender left side and then I felt a lump near my collarbone. It moves when pressed and I can only feel it in certain positions. Called the GP last week who never mentioned could be caused by the vaccine and really frightened me. When I then asked if could be vaccine he said um possibly but call back if still there end of this week to arrange bloods. I'm so terrified.

  • Actually my swollen right node seems as big as ever after 7 weeks, but the ultrasound man said 'no further action'  – unless it gets bigger. My second vaccination is on 22nd May. We'll see whether another node comes up or not....Hope the first one doesn't get bigger!

  • This sounds like the same thing that I and other people here have experienced. Bloods and ultrasound were OK for me and others, so try not to be worried, and think of other things as much as you can. I think it is becoming known as quite a common vaccine reaction

  • 3 weeks in no change in lump for me. Still mobile, firmer than tissue round it & smooth. Its basically like a small butter bean. Not visible unless feel for it. Left lower neck.

Had bloods done & fine. Referred for ultrasound as routine as lump under 2cm.

Thinking about paying private if referral comes with silly wait time.

  • Hi there folks ,the exact same thing has happened to me ,a day after my 2nd jab on the left side also ,seems a bit  of a coincidence to be fair .should I be concerned or let it be thanks
