Unexplained lump above collarbone

Hi everyone,

I hope this post is okay, I'm not sure what's wrong with me and I don't want to offend those who have been diagnosed but I'm so anxious right now. I'm 20 years old, and I'm at university right now. About 4.5 weeks ago, I found a small lump above my collarbone on the left side. It feels about 1cm and is oval shaped, smooth and I can move it around easily. I noticed it the day after I had a flu jab so just thought it as an effect of that. It hadn't gone away in a week so I phoned the GP and they agreed to phone in three weeks. Three weeks later and it was still there, they ordered some bloods which all came back clear. They've referred me for an ultrasound after examining it - he said it felt like a lymph node and that from feeling it there shouldn't be anything to worry about. I just keep jumping to the worst conclusions and thinking that I have lymphoma, because I've had really bad fatigue for the past few months. I had glandular fever in summer 2019, and I'm so scared that it could have caused lymphoma. So sorry for the ramble, I just don't know what else it could be apart from that.

  • I was the same with not wanting to prod it too much in case that kept it enlarged. I even googled if that is a thing but couldn't find a clear answer.

I also don't know how long mine was there before I found it, so it could have been very soon after the jab that it appeared. The second jab didn't seem to make it bigger.

The friend of a friend who had the same thing had what she described as a large mass in her armpit, so I've got my fingers crossed that it is just the covid jab for you too.

    Keep us updated x

  • Hi

I do hope it works out ok for everyone. The worry can certainly be overwhelming! I have had my swollen collarbone node for 10 weeks now ( I noticed it about 3 days after the first jab) and it has only just started reducing in size  - seems like they are now realising they can take some time to go down. My bloods were ok too  - it feels positive that seems to be the case for so many of us. I haven't had an ultrasound appointment yet - and wondering if there will be any similar side effects after my second AZ jab this Sunday.

  • Good luck for your ultrasound x

  • Update of the update: my blood test results are normal, which is good. Hopefully we are all having similar reassuring results.

  • Thanks!

    Next: ultrasound?

I was so glad to read that your swollen node is finally getting smaller after so many weeks .....

  • Hi

I have experienced a swollen lymph node in collarbone region on side of vaccine it's been there nearly 2 weeks and been referred by GP for an ultrasound she said not concerned as it's mobile and smooth and it's probably a reactive node, I was ok with this but now I can feel one on the other side of the collarbone so now I'm really worried again it feels smooth and mobile  it not sure why it's come up on opposite side

  • Hi

The GP said the same to me. I had thought there might be a smaller swollen lymph node on the other side (noticed just over a week ago) and the GP found it too and has referred me for an ultrasound on both sides. However, that was last Monday (a week ago) and I haven't heard anything about an ultrasound appointment yet, even though it is fast tracked. It's now just over 5 weeks since the vaccination for me.
I'm not sure about the lymph node coming up on the other side either, but the GP didn't appear very concerned in my case. Perhaps they could ultrasound both sides for you, if you ask. Hope this helps.

  • Hi

Thanks for the reply, sounds like we are in the same situation, how does your original one feel? Mine is oval shaped and smooth and mobile but doesn't seem to have changed since appearing and it gets tender if I press around it too much but it's hard not to, the other side seems smaller and again same shape and feeling.

im guessing the ultrasound will come within 2 weeks but the waiting is the hard part

    xx
