Unexplained lump above collarbone

Hi everyone,

I hope this post is okay, I'm not sure what's wrong with me and I don't want to offend those who have been diagnosed but I'm so anxious right now. I'm 20 years old, and I'm at university right now. About 4.5 weeks ago, I found a small lump above my collarbone on the left side. It feels about 1cm and is oval shaped, smooth and I can move it around easily. I noticed it the day after I had a flu jab so just thought it as an effect of that. It hadn't gone away in a week so I phoned the GP and they agreed to phone in three weeks. Three weeks later and it was still there, they ordered some bloods which all came back clear. They've referred me for an ultrasound after examining it - he said it felt like a lymph node and that from feeling it there shouldn't be anything to worry about. I just keep jumping to the worst conclusions and thinking that I have lymphoma, because I've had really bad fatigue for the past few months. I had glandular fever in summer 2019, and I'm so scared that it could have caused lymphoma. So sorry for the ramble, I just don't know what else it could be apart from that.

  • Hi..

Just wondered how everyone was doing?.... And what is the longest time a lymph node has been enlarged after Covid Jab for everyone?

I’ve got an enlarged node deep in the armpit on same side as my jab but my jab was Just over 9 weeks ago, I’m extremely worried due to it being in the same position/ node   (but on opposite side of body) to where melanoma spread to my lymph nodes 9 years ago,

I have been referred but I know from the past it takes a while to get diagnosed and I’m so anxious.

    thank you

  • Hi

As most people in this thread I too have a swollen right clavicle lymph node (same side as pfizer vac). I've had blood tests which showed I was folate deficient so now in folic acid. I've had antibiotics and now waiting for an ultrasound which is tomorrow, a chest xray 1st May and follow up with GP. I'm very anxious and hate the waiting but, what else can I do. Hope everyone else is getting OK x

  • Hi

My situation is similar to yours . I had my AZ jab almost 9 weeks ago and my collarbone lymph node is still  swollen. It is reducing in size - I think sometimes they take a while to go down .  I have blood tests arranged and also waiting to see what happens after the second jab which is due very soon. Do hope you don't have to wait too long for your referral. Waiting is always so hard!

  • Thanks for replying, yes the waiting is terrifying.

When you google about lymph nodes after vaccine, it all seems to say they should go down within two weeks which causes more anxiety and no one seems to know the proper answers. All I know is I was really poorly off my first jab which lasted over a week with weeks (not days) of head pains! All the scary stuff about the vaccine wasn’t really in the news then.

Its so scary when you’ve had cancer and you get a lump, your whole life gets put on hold, I hope your results are good.

  • I know exactly what you mean - that stomach churning moment when you discover something new! I fall apart each year waiting for my mammogram results - and for 7 years they have been clear. It certainly doesn't get any easier!  I know everyone's case is different but it has been reassuring to read posts where someone has had an ultrasound after more than six weeks and been told it's a reactive node and not suspicious. To be honest I think it's new territory for everyone including the medical profession.
    Hope everyone else is ok

  • I'm still feeling much less worried (although not completely unworried) thanks to you and this forum, thanks. My three weeks will be up on Monday (over four weeks since the jab, three weeks since the GP appointment), then I'm advised to call the GP surgery again – unless the lump goes down over this weekend, of course. Maybe it should be left a bit longer if they sometimes go down after six weeks +, but at least an ultrasound would be a nice harmless, radiation-free scan to be sent for this time. Hope there will be some reassuring UK facts and figures readily available for us soon x

  • I feel the same as you I think - fine one day then panicky the next. Do let us know how you get on with your gp and good luck. I think once I have had blood tests I will ask for an ultrasound too - just to be sure! I did read another medical report (far too much time on my hands working from home!) which said that they don't really have any idea how long the reactive nodes will stay swollen for after the vaccination.

    Jx

  • I work from home too. Perhaps we are living sort of parallel lives! Will keep you posted.

  • I thought I would post an update on my situation, which may be of help.

im now over 5 weeks since my 2nd Pfizer vaccine and still have a visible swollen lymph node above the left collar bone - same side as the vaccine. I had bloods taken yesterday at the doctor after I reported it last week.

I had a call from a receptionist at my doctors surgery today saying my 2 initial bloods have come back as normal. I believe they were the cancer indicators screening and a thyroid check, I think my blood film is still to come back. The doctor himself will call Tuesday so I can get more info from him as the receptionist couldn't give any detail, but certainly so far things are looking reassuring.

Im impressed at the speed of things with the surgery! Hope this helps reassure some folk though.

  • Good luck for your phone call with the doctor tomorrow x
