not sure what a Brest clinic apt will be like now 

my breast cancer was picked up on a routine mammogram 

I was called back and first I had an ultrasound 

and a needle biopsy it wasn't painful and the staff were very kind 

I was told it definitely wasn't a cysts 

I didn't have any lump or any symptoms 

I had to wait then to see the breast consultant 

she said I had a lot of DCIS 

which is cancer within the ducts not invasive 

which makes the breast unstable 

 I had a vacuum it biopsy which was unpleasant 

where they found invasive ductal cancer 

it was a real shock but I had already made my mind up to have a mastectomy 

it's all a bit long and the waiting is awful 

I had reconstruction straight away and no other 

treatment I'm 4 years down the line now and have never been ill and coped ok

Hi,

at your appointment they will perform a physical examination of both your breasts and the chest area/arm pits etc. They will probably get a mammogram of both breasts and possibly an ultrasound of the lump you are feeling. They may well be able to tell From this if you need to have a biopsy done - if you do, they will do it there for you the same day. You won't get the official results from a biopsy that day but if they think it's a cancerous lump they will discuss this with you to prepare you.
