Tonsil cancer

Hello my name is Heather, I am new on here I'm just looking for advice really.

I went to see my doctor because I have swollen glands in my neck had them for over 6 weeks also I've got one tonsil larger than the other, i noticed this 4 weeks ago but not really sure on how long its been like that. I've been referred to the ENT and im just wondering what to expect at this appointment.

Many thanks

  • Thanks so much Aidan - i'm so glad it was negative for you and it gives me hope that an assymetrical tonsil and sore throats are not necessarily cancer

I've seen post recovery videos on youtube so i'm aware it's no walk in the park and that i have a tough week ahead. I will try my very best to stay on top of pain meds and put an alarm for them at night and try to push through food and water

So sorry you had to go to hospital - with the current situation i'm hoping i don't have to as I imagine getting COVID post tonsillectomy is not a good idea so i'll try my best to push through the pain. Not looking forward to it but i will be glad when this nightmare is all over!

  • I hope you've had a negative result by now summersday! I'm getting my tonsillectomy tomorrow and am very nervous about it all

  • Hi I was too ill to attend my appointment on the day as I was very nauseas due to severe perimenopause, however to my surprise I received a phone call from a consultant the same day who said in her opinion I didn't need a biopsy, the MRI was clear and everything is ok. The problem is I still feel very anxious as the tonsil appears to be flatter and shrunken and it just doesn't look right. I've been told I can have a second opinion at another hospital, I have a phone appointment on 31.12.20 but I might go private to speed things up. I don't know if I'm going ga ga but I just can't get the worry out of my mind. I thought I could just have a quick biopsy with forceps or something just to 100% rule out cancer but it seems this is no longer on offer. I don't know if they're cutting corners due to covid. I wake up every morning and the first thing I think of is my throat and I feel sick, everytime I clean my teeth my stomach starts churning I tell myself 100 times a day the MRI is clear but I still feel worried. Its difficult as I also have PTSD so I do t k ow what to think.
