Thyroid cancer concern

Hi people, I've had concerns around my thyroid for about 4 years now. Finally got referred for a thyroid ultrasound about 3 months ago and had the ultrasound 5 weeks ago.

Got a call from my endocrinologist the next day saying that some 'things of concern' had shown up in my ultrasound and I would need an emergency ct scan (2 weeks target to be seen). I'm sure he mentioned lump however my appt was over the phone and I had bad reception so it was hard to fully hear everything.

Due to coronavirus strains my ct scan did not happen for a month and I'm now waiting for results, however the more I'm researching this, the more trouble I'm having understanding why I was referred for a ct scan and not a fine needle aspiration. Is anyone able to shed some light on why this might be please?

With much thanks in anticipation

  • Hi Lola88,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. To be honest I'm not too sure why this would be the case - this would be best discussed with your doctor if possible, perhaps at the time you get your results.

However if you'd like to discuss it with someone in the meantime, our nurses may be able to advise. You can reach them on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

Wishing you all the best and I hope you find out more soon,
