Ultrasound of testicles

Hello everyone. I've had an examination of my testicles by my GP who thinks I may have a cyst on one of my testicles and may have a hydrocele/epididymitis on my other one. He's also concerned that one is notably larger than the other. He couldn't be certain so has referred me for an ultrasound.

My query is to people who have had an ultrasound of the testes before... Was there any particular prep you did or were advised to do? Before my GP appointment I took a nice warm bath to make sure 'access' would be easier for my GP. Would you recommend the same for the scan? Are they wanting to scan from several angles or will they just roll the doppler over the top where they can?

Thanks in advance for any help :)

  • I had a testicular ultrasound just over 2 years ago.  The only prep was to turn up, and don't forget to bring my tackle.

To the best of my recollection they roll the scanner over each entire testicle. The scan itself didn't take more than a few minutes, but you then spend the next five minutes wiping the cold, wet gel of your naughty bits.

In my case, the operator could find nothing wrong with my bits, so he asked if I'd like him to scan the bladder and surrounding area.  I agreed, and that added a couple more minutes to the scan time, but again nothing was found.

    Good luck.
