Day one - found lump, referred to breast clinic

This morning has been a roller coaster. Couple of days ago I found a lump.... was it real  ? Maybe not...maybe it wont be there tomorrow ( monday) crack on..keep your mind occupied..dont think about it. Monday...still there.... and now looking in the mirror theres a crease in the skin...ish... This isnt going to go away is it...  Tuesday...... right Stop being a coward..it might not be the big C.... but do you honestly think a) it's going to go away on it's own? b) you can carry on knowing it's there? ...

Wednesday: 9am emailed the surgery on their askmygp app.

Typed in " I've found a lump in my breast " ..cue tears...

Couple of hours pass while I try and concentrate on nothing much.

Call from clinician at the surgery..lots of questions about where it is, how big it is, does it move, is it attached, any redness, any discharge.

Referred to breast clinic. Usually two weeks but because of COVID...they are a bit behind ..could be 3 weeks.... . Be prepared they will probably do an ultra sound scan and a biopsy there and then.

Im not concerned about what they do ...liar... but the

.sooner the better. I just need to know what this is!! And hope it isnt what I think it is. No family history of BC..... everything crossed.

  • Hi,

I was in your shoes 2 weeks ago! When I went to clinic (last Wednesday) I had mammogram and ultrasound. Radiographer was not worried about the lump/ swelling that has sent me there but said he felt something else. So he decided to do a biopsy there and then. It was nowhere near as bad as I would have expected. Practically painless. He put in a tiny marker for future ref, took another mammogram to be certain it was in the right place and that was it. A bit sore and bruised after but totally manageable.

I got a call today from consultant to say it was benign and doesn't need any follow up. So there are positive stories- try not to worry too much! Fingers crossed for you. Waiting is hard. I have an MRI on 21st Oct on pancreas so scared stiff about that!- Another waiting game :(

I hope all works out well for you. Take care. x

  • Hi

Thank you for replying. You feel so alone. Only hubby and my sister know..had to tell someone. Trying not to think of how to tell the kids if it IS BC. You can see I'm galloping down the road of scenarios. Which is worse making mental lists just incase? Or not in the hope you wont have to? Moved things around in 2 bedrooms yesterday just to keep me busy. If it's a 3 week wait this will be the tidiest house in the countyFell apart half way through tea...no apparent reason..wasnt thinking about it at the time.

Lost my dad in July...this really easnt needed on top of all that.

  • Oh Traciej....... I am so pleased for you.

  • So

I am 2 days away from the pre op. And whatever can go wrong seems to be. I dont roll around well on hospital couches. As a consequence I have been suffering with my hip and leg. And just to add insult to injury....little toe which was fine yesterday is now giving it large again today.

And as I type this a letter lands from my consultant regarding last weeks consultation. Its not until you see it all written there in black and white, that it starts to look really scary....... grade III invasive ductal carcinoma (IHC) pending.....you could be offered breast reconstruction...or mastectomy....the palpable lump would be amenable to wide local excision...... etc etc oh my Feckin days ....15% have a potential need for more surgery....as you are aware you will need adjuvant radiotherapy..........

    I need a cuppa!!!!!

  • Whatnext64,

I am sorry that life is so daunting at the moment. Letters like that just seem awful and make things real. Do you have someone at home with you at the moment?

  • Oh no! Just when you start to get your head around the op they go and change it! Life can be such a bi**h sometimes!

Yes I'm so relieved! I had a feeling it was a cyst the way it was behaving. But I shan't be completely relaxed until I get the results on Friday

Good luck to all those attending appointments and results in the coming days

  • So annoying so I went for my appointment today. And she said it is irregular in feeling etc and I need an ultrasound but now I have to wait another two weeks for this appointment. I'm not sure I will be able to wait another two weeks xx

  • 2 weeks?! That's a long time to wait isn't it. I was lucky enough to have my ultrasound with the consultation. Hang in there, you'll get through this. One day at a time xxx

    Whatsnext,

    Oh bless you

  • I know I'm so disappointed. I will call hospital tomorrow and see if I can have any appointment. I'll even sit and wait if I have to.
I honestly thought I'd know where I stood by now and I'm actually more anxious I think.

  • Of course, I'd feel disappointed too you went to an appointment expecting some answers, maybe wait for results but your anxiety now has to continue another fortnight where ANYTHING can happen ie covid. You can't afford to be kept waiting. Your mental health is at stake if nothing else!

    Chin up!
