brain tumour or stress??

hiya I'm a 17 year old female, I didn't know what else to turn too as I'm up at almost 4 in the morning driving myself crazy researching my symptoms etc to try put my mind at ease however I discovered this in hope anyone could help. My symptoms started last year around the end of summer time I was experiencing mild headaches at first and I wouldn't label them as painful more uncomfortable. I was also getting weird body pains almost this went on for months before I had the courage to go get it seen too at my local gp!! I told the doctor as crazy as it must sound how scared and worried I was in case I had cancer. We went over my symptoms and she reassured me that I would have a lot more severe symptoms if this was the case. I was diagnosed with chronic headaches and prescribed with naproxen. A couple weeks prior to this appointment I got an eye test for glasses I mentioned this to the doctor and she told me often the equipment opticians have pick up brain tumours. The naproxen helped and my headaches and body pains actually went away for a couple of months to then return recently!! I got prescribed naproxen again only this time the medication isn't working as well. Iv always suffered from anxiety and stress and tend to think the worse when i have something wrong with me. I defiantly think I fall under the category of a hypochondriac!! I know I need to go back to the doctor I'm just terrified and feel like I'm going insane. If anyone's read this I appreciate it and would love any response!!

  • Hi sunshinesparkle...

    Welcome to the forum.

This looks like a classic case of Google-induced anxiety. Staying awake Googling your symptoms until the early hours is never going to induce peace of mind; it's simply going to feed your hypochondria.  "Dr" Google is a very poor physician who should have been struck off years ago.

Make a promise to yourself that won't Google your symptoms any more and that you'll make an appointment with your GP to discuss changing your medication AND your health anxiety. I also think you need to discuss your feelings and worries with your family. At 17 this isn't something you should be facing alone.

This might be a situation where a complimentary therapy such as acupuncture might be very useful.

In the meantime, you need to relax and get some sleep.  I recommend this short video for a quick fix to calm the mind: How to meditate in a moment.

  • hiya thanks very much for the response I appreciate it , my mum is aware of all of this as it's been ongoing for a while now she thinks it might have something to do with diet , staring at a phone etc. I think counciling would be a good idea I'm just not sure where to go for something like that. I just came off the phone with my gp and has arranged a phone call with a doctor later this evening hopefully it will be helpful!!
