Swollen hard lump under right rib cage

Hi I'm worried about a swollen hard lump under my right rib cage I only noticed it on the off chance as there is no pain ect

I've been to see my gp who is sending me for a ultrasound but its 3 weeks away

Is it possible to be something harmless as I've done the usual and Googled it and everything is leading to liver cancer im 35 years old

It feels like its right on the last rib on the bottom and goes around slightly to the side

I did ask my gp if he had any ideas he seemed to think it could be cartridge

Anymore information needed just ask

Thanks

  • Hi Brockyneo,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. Unfortunately I'm not able to advise on this, only to say that there could be many things to explain this, not just cancer - so try not to assume the worst at this point. The test you have booked in will provide more information. Three weeks may seem like a long wait, but try to keep yourself busy while you wait, to keep your mind off things.

Also do avoid Googling it as the information is often irrelevant and/or outdated, and tends only to lead to further worry.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Hi thanks for the reply I managed to get my ultrasound scan done today and the lady didn't seem to concerned she said she couldn't see anything,so I asked her about my liver and she said the ultrasound wouldn't be able to see it or something which I found strange

So feel like I got no where but the mass is still there

She said it could be my bottom rib lol but its different from the left side

  • What has happend since I have had the same problem

  • Hi to be honest they didn't say much it was quickly scanned and I was told by my doctor it looked like a fatty cartilage or something.

I'm still worried and it doesn't feel right and with all the covid things going on felt like it was rushed a little bit I was in and out the ultrasound within 5 mins

  • Hi, I have something similar under my left rib cage. It’s also been coupled with abdominal pain in the left side. I was instructed by 111 to go to A&E which I did over the weekend. They thought the pain could be attributed to kidney stones but stayed quiet on the lump and suggested they will refer me for a CT scan. Now I’m anxiously awaiting a phone call to book the CT scan appointment, hope they don’t keep me waiting too long.

  • Hey, I have the exact same thing. I'm not so worried about the lump as it's not growing but will get it check although. Although after urinating, I have pain just be my abs but to the right. I was given antibiotics that helped for a couple months but now it's back and even more painful. What happen with you? And was it after urinating?

  • Hi I’ve got this problem now did the gp say anything was wrong? All my blood and urrine tests have come back fine

  • Hi all - I see this is a really old post, but I have this issue! its been on and off for 8 years! apparently there is nothing wrong with me... but this time its been back for 2 months and i am freaking out again, even paid privately for a new ultrasound so didnt have to wait on nhs list.. but nothing.. I feel like my bottom right rib has a lump on it, really tender, then a tight feeling around my right side - all organs clear, no infections etc.. doctors just say its nothing, but it gets worse throughout the day and then overnight goes and we repeat the following day.. its honestly driving me insane!  worse when I am sitting down or driving... no pain as such but so uncomfortable..
