Hi, I guess I'm just looking for reassurance and someone to chat to who has been here. I'm dealing with the prospect of cancer for the second time this year, which has been awful enough for everyone as it is.
I had a biopsy in July for a lump on my scalp, suspected bcc. I waited since January for this. After a very long 6 week wait after the op (I developed palpitations due to the worry), the results came back clear, what a relief!
Then a month later I developed a sore throat, on off headache and general feeling of malaise. After 2 weeks I was given penacillin for 1 week due to there being white spots on my tonsils, arranged through a telephone consult due to COVID. This helped slightly but then the sore throat got much worse. It was both sides initially but in the last week seems to be localised to one side, and my ear is sore intermittently too. Sometimes the roof of my mouth and the back of my throat feel itchy and I get a burning sensation, which usually stops after a few hours.
I had a blood test and swab which came back clear, so I have been referred to ENT for suspected throat cancer. No one has actually looked at my throat since it started, 6 weeks ago. I was told I would be seen urgently within 2 weeks, but it turns out there is a queue due to COVID, at least a month. I'm scared as we all know time is of the essence, of course this can't be helped.
To make matters worse, I work on a phone/technical support, so am talking all day and talking makes it worse. I was actually crying between calls today as it was so sore. I am taking cocodamol, difflam spray and lozenges to get by. I've only told my partner and my team leader at work, I can't face worrying anyone else or facing the truth.
Thank you for reading my post. Has anyone had any similar experiences? Is there anything anyone can recommend to help with the pain? Any advice greatly appreciated.
