Bowel cancer/surgeon

Hi I posted last week about a stool test that I complete, then doctor wanted a different stool test 2 days later as first was positive, the second stool test kit was completely different to the first and also cane back positive. My doctor called and said I have been referred to a specialist on a 2ww but couldn't tell me anymore "over the phone and for compliance" wgich i respect.

Now I have received a letter today to visit a surgeon on Monday morning on the reverse due to covid 19 it says in small print please note this clinic is only open for newly diagnosed cancer patients and cancer patients starting treatment.

I haven't had a colonoscopy and BC is in close family I'm 34 and just wanting to know if anyone has had similar and what was the outcome?

My doctor said the stool test will show them what cancer DNA is in the stool/mucus but again couldn't give me a straight answer and side stepped my questions but she did mention that I will start a care package.

Help please and thank you

  • Hi Keefy_85.  Welcome to the forum.

Don't worry too much about the stupid wording on the letter.  No one can diagnose bowel cancer just from a couple of stool tests. Being on a 2 week referral mean that you have been referred to a cancer clinic, but it doesn't mean you will eventually be diagnosed with cancer. I believe that less than 1 in 10 people who are referred as a result of a stool test actually turn out to have cancer, so the odds are still very much in your favour, especially given your young age.  As I'm sure you're aware, you will almost certainly have a colonoscopy, plus maybe some other form of imaging.  It's something that both my wife and I have been through, and it wasn't too bad for either of us.
