Blood in stool

Hello,

I'm a 19yr old male.

As of this afternoon around 1400 (9th August 2020). I have noticed some red patches in my stool. I've only been to the toilet to do a number two twice today, both looking the same with red patches. I have no pain in my anus, stomach or else where. When I wipe there is no blood on the toilet paper nor obvious signs of blood in the toilet bowl. The red areas a very small around 1-2mm spots. On top of this my stool is normal colour. If you could help that would be great thank you.

  • Hi axi1401.

    Welcome to the forum.

I should start out by saying that I'm not a doctor and I have no medical qualifications.

That said, bowel and other digestive cancers are very rare in someone your age, so it is more than likely that there is a simple (and not sinister) reason for the blood in your stool.  Perhaps it isn't blood at all... Have you eaten something coloured red that might have passed through your system?

Please note that blood in stool is a "red flag" symptom that must always be reported to a doctor.

  • Hi,

Thank you for your reply. In answe to your question over the past few days I have eaten high amounts of read foods such as tomato's and peppers.

  • That's interesting.

I'm most definitely not an expert but from what I can find out, It does appear that tomatoes can cause small red spots in one's poo.  This may be what you're seeing but I can't say for certain.

I think that if I were in your situation I'd report this to my GP and ask for fecal test.  This means you have to put a sample of your poo into a jar!  This isn't as difficult as it sounds -just spread a double length piece of kitchen towel across the loo, holding it in place with sellotape if necessary, then drop a poo onto it.  Use the supplied spoon to grab a sample, then flush the whole lot away for clear up.

When the result comes back clear, which is highly likely given your age, then you can breathe easy.
