Phyllodes Tumour - anyone else had one of these?

So I was diagnosed with a phyllodes tumour in April. After biopsy it wasn't clear if benign. Either way it needed to be removed. Covid meant a long wait but I finally had my lumpectomy last Monday. All went well now just waiting for the results. I have an appointment on Thursday afternoon. The waiting is just the absolute worst part isn't it. Surgery was a doddle compared to this wait where you can do nothing but watch the hours tick by. Anybody else on here have experience with a phyllodes tumour? I understand they are quite rare and only around 1% of women get them.

  • Hi Nikki1981,

It's good to hear things went well with the lumpectomy although no doubt the waiting was difficult. I'm sorry no-one got back to you sooner but I see you have your appointment today so not too long to wait now and I hope it all goes well. Do be sure to use it as an opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Hi there, I was wondering how you got on?

i was diagnosed with this tumour in 2018 when I noticed a large lump coming out of my breast which was v scary as it grew so large it was desorting my breast, I didn't even notice it before hand. My doctor diagnosed a breast infection at first until I went breast clinic then diagnosed with Phylloyds tumour was told rare tumour  but the waiting for results was the worst! They said it was benign and over 5cm once they took it out but they only removed the lump no lumpectomy was performed as they thought at first may be a another type of lump. I went for routine mammogram last year and tumour was back , so then they gave me a lumpectomy and now awaiting results for my mammogram I had last week. Just hope it's not back again, i am glad they keep a close eye on us though.  I hope you get on ok

  • Hi there.

luckily it was benign. Was a massive relief although I now have an infection and my scar isn't healing great but it could have been a lot worse! I'm not sure how big mine was actually but I don't think it was as big as yours. I will have regular checks annually and have been told to obviously check myself regularly as they can come back. Wishing you lots of luck with your results. Scary isn't it. Being rare I found not many people knew much about it. Even my dr had to google it after she received the letter from the hospital!

take care and let me know how you get on x

  • Ah glad yours was benign too, ha yeah my doctor gave me three weeks worth of antibiotics thinking that would work he was so sure was an infection. Don't think he came across it before. It's good they keep checking us but I hate waiting for the results! I know I have looked online but not a great deal about these and I tried to find other people who had one in 2018 all I kept hearing is that they are rare! Trust me to get a rare one lol..

thank you, bit worried about the result but hopeful that now I've had lumpectomy may stop from returning .  X

  • Hi...

I had a phylodes tumour diagnosed October 2018 with borderline cells so had it removed and all was ok, had my routine yearly mammogram in November 2019 and all clear  until about 6 weeks ago I found another lump in the same place, had all the tests and it's a reoccurrence of the phylodes I'm due in surgery on Monday all being well after my covid test today.... My own doctor hadn't heard of it until my diagnosis and had to do a wee bit research,

    Emily x

  • Sorry to hear this Emily. I'll keep my fingers crossed for good news for you and I hope the surgery goes well. Not ideal having surgery during a pandemic is it! Let me know how U get on and I'm here if you ever want to chat.

    take care, Nikki x

  • Hi how are you doing? Just wondering how u got on with your results? All good I hope.

  • Hi there, how are you getting on?

thankfully my mammogram came back clear this time, I couldn't have a follow up consultation appointment due to COVID so my next one is in February 21 so they can give me a physical examination before my next routine mammogram.  I must admit the care I have received from the hospital has been amazing, my consultant tells me they are unpredictable so if/when it comes back they can deal with straight away but makes me feel quite anxious, I don't fancy a 3rd one :(

anyway I hope your getting on well x

  • Brilliant news! Yes my care was great too - makes the whole process a lot easier when you feel looked after doesn't it. I'm doing well thank you. My wound has healed well now and apart from having one boob slightly smaller and higher up than the other I won't complain .

    take care xx

  • Hi..... surgery went well, just the anesthetic I don't do well with so bad 10 days of feeling yuk..... results all good so back to just checking myself and then back to clinic next year... couldn't fault anyone or anything given the current situation with covid everything went according to plan... hope your staying safe....
