Mouth cancer -waiting 4-6 weeks for results. Is this normal?

Hi everyone I do hope everyone is well I was just wondering if anyone one knows is it normal to have to wait between 4/6weeks for mouth biopsy results plus mri had the procedure done last Friday and was told it will be 4/6 weeks before I get results with appointment.

    Hi I had tonsil cancer and my biopsy was 19 June 2018  and saw oncologist the following week , I had had a fine needle biopsy earlier ans they knew I had s c c cancer cells  but 4-6/weeks seems excess to me I would chase those.

    Hi thank you for your reply,

    i am not sure if this is my hospital procedure at the moment due to covid.

    the reason why I think this as I have not seen my consultant face to face yet and after my biopsy that was done under general it was the ward staff nurse who informed me I get the result in 4/6wks with the follow up appointment and the surgeon did not come and see me and explain his findings I think they may have removed the lumps as a whole as my mouth in places looks like it has had laser treatment and in other places just little red patches of tissue where a biopsy was took. I also have no numbers to contact as everything at present has been done over the phone. 

    I hope I'm not joining the club but I'm worried also I have been losing weight unintentionally.

    the waiting is honestly the  worst part.  I do know of quite a few who have been diagnosed  and going through treatment during the pandemic.Best advise I was given was to keep off Dr Google All you will do is scare  yourself, trust me have been there and done it. If it is real cancer the treatment isn’t pleasant but the results are excellent take heart from that hope you don’t join us but if you do  you will be in good hands .

    let us know how you get on any help just shout. Try to keep busy watch rubbish box sets or anything just to keep,occupied.

    if it he,ps any I didn’t loose any weight until treatment was part way through  only symptom s I had was Larry the lump,in  the hollow of my collar bone .

    what normally happens with biopsy they will discuss  findings a m d t meeting then shortly after you will have a meeting. If they thu I cancer they won’t make you wait -6 weeks to tell you. I feel sure of that .You can ring the consultants secretary they are working or even contact your g p. Oral cancers are a priority and yiu shouldn’t be kept waiting.

    you have reassured me a bit and so far this week has gone so slow but I'm sure that because I have been stuck in now for 3wks as I am normally so busy with work as I'm a key worker and other stuff plus this always on my mind. Hopefully once I'm back to work my mind will be busy. 

    I have been watching a lot of cookery programs as I enjoy them as well as cooking.

    thank you for the advice I will ring my consultant secretary if this waiting game gets the better of me.

    I do hope you continue to recover and I will update you once I hear more.
