Hard lump under chin

Hello,

Apoligies if I've posted in the incorrect section.

I know my issue might seem trivial in retrospect to others, but I suffer from immense health anxiety so I just thought I'd ask for advice.

I recently developed a very hard, moveable lump under the right side of my jaw (in the flesh unde my chin) a few weeks ago. It's feels very firm and is about 1cm in size; I can feel it easily when pushed against my jawbone.

I phoned the doctors who give me a prescription for antibiotics over the phone. I've taken them for 4/5 days and no change.

The lump on the other side is very difficult to feel in context to this more prominent one.

I've also developed a spot right above the moveable lump that I can't pop but I feel that may be unrelated.

I don't have any more symptoms.

I'm due to have another appointment with the doctor on Friday, annoyingly over the phone again.

I guess I'm just worried that this may be cancer (lymphoma, ect) because everything I've stupidly read online has scared me about the very hard lump.

I had dental issues last year. A root canal was performed in February this year due to that.

Am I being irrational being so scared of a pea sized lump under my chin deep inside near my throat, or is can this be normal?

Many thanks in advance.

A.

  • Any comments on whether it's normal to have a 1cm hard moveable lump under your chin or whether it's worth worrying, and doing something sbout be be awesome.

I'm really worried as I'm only 33, and this lump is not something I'm sure has been there forever or is new.

Can normal lymph nodes be 1cm under the chin, hard and moveable and not symmetrical to the other side where I can't feel any nodes tbh.

    Thanking you.

  • Hi, I have had these in my jaw for as long as I can remember, I remember as a kid getting annoyed with them because I wanted to get rid of them.
I assume that they are normal however I'm not a doctor so I would definitely get it checked if u are worried.

They may have always been there for you as well and u have only just noticed them.
    hope this helps,

  • Thank you for your reply, Chloe.

My anxiety is absolutely through the roof. I've just found another one deeper in my chin; the same size (1cm ish) and that's making me feel worse although I do have to manipulate my head to the side so that I can feel it against a hard surface (my jaw).

I know I'm my own worst enemy but the fact that I cant feel any on the other side is making me worry.

    Again, thank you Chloe.

  • I thought I'd post in case people google similar symptoms.

I've been to the docs and initially he couldn't feel my node until I pointed him in the right direction.

He give me upper lymph node areas a check and concluded that it didn't appear to be anything nasty so come back in 6 weeks if I'm still worried.

I actually only noticed the lump a week ago but I have mental issues so had to lie to get beyond my battleaxe medical secretary... so the doctor thinks I've had if longer. I would've gone crazy other and during these COVID times the wait would've finished me. Forgive me.

anyways he said that unless it gets bigger then I'm going to go so I better keep checking it once a day.

    thank you

  • Chloe

Did you find out what this was?

    I hope you are well.
