Lump in front of ear

I was just cleaning out my ears (I know, gross) and I noticed that right where my top jaw meats my bottom jaw is a rather large lump.. maybe the size of a 2p in diameter? It doesn't hurt unless I massage it and doesn't seem to move at all. Not the same on my left side at all, its flat on that side so I don't feel like it is supposed to be there... would you recommend getting it checked out?

  • Am kinda having the same stuff.

Though I had the node since very young and never bothered me to be honest ! Mine is tender, painless but moves well under the skin, like I could pass my finger under it (I know gross) but since maybe February/March it has gone double sized and so am doing a check in July finally ( why does it happen during this virus crisis !!) could be due to stress maybe... will see !

Obviously am pretty anxious about it but for peace of mind I do a check !

  • Yeah mine doesn't move and its quite tender to touch but I think it's cause I've been messing with it. I'm gonna ring the docs in the morning and hopefully I'll get it checked out. It hurts more today and I'm struggling to open my jaw

  • I have same only one side and other side is flat ! It could be caused also by anything like infection to a teeth or infection somewhere else that your body is busy is fighting without you knowing - or anything else ! yes just stop touching it :) !

And forget about it if you can and get checked by your doctor and like if it doesn’t go like me just get it checked with a referral ! Think positive !

    I know it’s been a while but I have updates !

So they found i had a benign tumor (adénome pleomorph) and so about 3 weeks ago now I had the surgery !

I did it back in france because service was quicker than in UK.

i was told after the MRI i would see the surgeon in London but they never contacted me back in August and so decided to pass It on to my surgeon in France.

i got the surgery (done in the morning and back home in the eve for healing) & so they removed a bit of my parotide on the left side but I can still smile, eat etc as normal !! Just lost a bit of touch feeling in my ear and around but it will come back at some point...(Surgeon was great too!) it was painful the first few days and got some antibios - but now I don’t take anything.

i am healing pretty well but I still have an effusion of lymphatic liquid and will have a drain & antibios to help but hopefully it will stop at some point !! But going it’s gone forever !

  • I've found a small lump infront of my ear just last night it's knly

noticeable when I open my mouth wide but when it's closed I can feel the very small pea sized lump. The doctor told me it's most likely viral. How did you find out yours was cancerous?

  • Hi there,

My GP told me to wait for 2 weeks to see the size decrease. Obviously it did not and so I asked for X-ray !

    Mine was 3x3x2.5cm :$.

Gp sent me for X-ray  and they couldn’t even see what it was ( like what was inside !...) though at the same time they took a biopsy ! I think i had to wait maybe a month or so to get the X-ray, as I guess due to covid it’s bit slow...

(It was on a Friday and I got result on the Monday following ! Like it was likely benign (they always keep the last percents une case of malignant !)

Then did a MRI to see if it touch the facial nerves too in August and never met the surgeon in Uk. So I sent everything  to a surgeon I met in France ! And here I am !

  • Was your lump noticeable? And did you have any side effects with it?

  • No it was not, nobody would knew - but it’s kept growing - and it was not hurtful or anything as I had it for years ! It was located in the corner of my jaw by the mandibule corner, slightly lower than my ear.

  • Thank you. Mine is right infront of the ear lobe so slightly higher than the jaw bone. I'm going to give it another few weeks to see if it grows any. Just because I'm experiencing some fatigue and my glands feel abit swollen and tender. It's more the fear of not knowing what it is

  • Hello, sorry to trouble, but I've found a hard pea sized lump infront of my ear lobe on jaw line like you, I'm worried sick about it, I've rang the doctors and they want me to wait and see if it goes away on it's own. But I've been on google and made my self ill with anxiety now.

did you get to the bottom of yours?

    thanks

  • Yeah mine is just infront of the ear lobe above the jawline and only seems to pop out when I open my mouth, the dr examined it and sent me for bloods and an ultrasound, bloods came back clear and the ultrasound shown lymph nodes in my parotid gland but the dr wasn't worried. He has referred me back in 3 months to make sure they haven't gotten any bigger in size.

  • Mine pops in when I open my mouth! Like a hard pea ? Not sore at all, worried sick thinking all sorts. Thanks for your reply glad your ok. X

  • I had a similar lump in front of my ear , between my top and bottom jaw just on the right side. It was the size of a baked bean I would say ! I only happened to notice it when I put my hand on my head to rest it , so don't know how long it had been there! Was going to go to the doctors if it hadn't gone within 2 weeks. Kept checking it every couple of days , and it gradually went dpwn and went. Can only think it may have been the lymph node swollen maybe due to an infection, I didn't have anything major , but remember having a few spots in that area that were quite sore a couple of weeks before hand . I would say if it hasn't gone down within a couple of weeks definitely see the doctor to get it checked .

  • hi. i have the same thing. in the same spot. I'm curious what happened to your lump?

  • Hi all,

A few days ago I found a pea sized lump right at the tip of my ear lobe where it connects to the jaw line. It doesn't hurt but I've been poking it so much that it does feel tender now. I googled "pea size lump near ear" and this chat came at the top of search. Now I'm thinking if I should message my GP and see what they think.

    Fingers X

  • Hi in reponse to all  the above ... I have just found a lump in front of my ear right on my cheek jaw line it moves with my jaw bone it doesn't hurt & I wouldn't of noticed it.. has anyone had blocked ear ? I have a blocked ear with no wax  & hearing loss ..I had my hearing test it was Amber been referred back....I am concerned so wanted to ask if anyone's ear  & hearing  was effected by the lump ?

  • Hi I have had pain in ear and jaw and thought it was caused by bad tooth so dentist pulled tooth out (I have got to loose my top teeth on right side because they're broken and irreparable and because if dentists been closed for a bloody year due to covid I have been suffering and now will loose these teeth if it hadn't been for covid I could have got them filled and saved!!

well the pain got worse after tooth one extraction and then I had shingles again because I suffer with reocurring facial shingles and there are unbearably painful. This time though I have just  found a lump infront my ear on my face near jaw and earlobe. It's painful it moves when I touch it, and I have a constant pinching feeling like somethings wrong with back of inside mouth. It hurts to open mouth and I have ear pain and Tinitus.  I don't know if the shingles have caused a gland to come up or if this is a Lipoma due to trauma caused by shingles on face and eye or trauma due to tooth extraction!
I have never had pain like this after shingles or before shingles appear! The shingles have healed I'm just left with a pink scar and dry skin but I wonder if infection caused saliva gland to swell. I was on a lot of tablets to heal shingles so I'm sure they should have stopped glands swelling?  Any idea if this could be a Lipoma or is it Glands swollen because of shingle infection?!!

I do suffer with lipomas I have had one removed from my back with grew to 10x14cm over two years of waiting for the op!!! I pray this isn't a lipoma as with covid it will grow and grow so much I'll be in constant agony like I am now waiting because of bloody covid stopping operations .   Any advice would be welcome thank you x
