Cyst on ovary and fluid in fallopian tube

Hi

I've had symptoms of a UTI and irregular periods and pain for nearly a year. I actually went to the GP about some pain in my breast that subsided and she said my periods were worth sending me for an ultrasound.

The lady who scanned me said she found fluid on my fallopian tube and a 4cm cyst on my ovary and that she couldn't guarantee it but it wasn't a scan typical of cancer.

When I went back to GP she said she wants to rule out cancer but echoed she wasnt too worried so I'm being sent for a CA125 test. I did the adult thing and turned to Doctor Google which has obviously scared me.

I mean what does a scan typical of cancer look like?! I'm hoping for some reassurance or failing that as I mean I guess nobody can say until I get the results back some coping mechanisms while I wait.

Thank you in advance!

  • Hi shivanuala,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I can certainly understand your worries as it's never easy waiting for results.

As you say, no-one can really advise on your situation - it's best to wait for the results and discuss everything with your doctor. In terms of coping mechanisms, naturally everyone is different but firstly do try to stay away from Google as this can often increase worry and the information is often not relevant.

Some say it helps to keep busy to try to keep your mind off things while waiting. Try not to assume anything one way or the other, and carry on as normal while waiting for your appointment - and at that point as I say use it as an opportunity to ask any questions you have.

    Wishing you all the best,
