Bloating, Bleeding from Bum with clots

Hello All,

I'm 35 and a Mum to 2 beautiful girls aged 11 and 3. I guess I first had rectal bleeding around 18 months ago however my Dad was at the time dying in hospital of Cancer so put it down to stress.

Had another episode in Jan this year with severe bloating. I went to A&E and they said I had a compacted upper colon. Lower bowel was completely clear which confused them. As a result I was to be referred to see the Gastro team. Then Covid happened......

I since became pregnant and am currently 19 weeks pregnant. The past 3 weeks the bleeding is back. I feel like I can go to the toilet but all I get is blood and mucus. Feel unwell after too. Dr did blood test and stool test. Results came back the my Calprotectin level was very high at 1640 when normal range is 0-50.

Due to levels alone the Dr referred me as a suspected Cancer patient. To say that conserned me is an understatement but trying to stay positive.

Big complication is I'm pregnant and I'm worried. Has anyone else experienced these symptoms and what was the outcome for you?

  • Hi all hope you don't mind me crashing in..was diagnosed with cancer over four years ago,and started bleeding bad from back passage when I had chemotherapy, bright red and clots regularly, very messy.had camera to check, yes hemeroids camera showed them like petals of a flower all the way around the inside,I was offered treatment but warned Very painful and could still return so just left them still have bleeding weekly but got us to it bit of pain now and again easily bearable.

Frankie.  Movicol is what My wife is on,you should only have six max a day and then only to clean you out try taking less and take at night then it should work in morning or slightly later, food you eat can help as well.

    Hope things get sorted soon.

    Best wishes to all.

    Billy

  • Hey [@Billygoatt]‍ I wouldn’t be scared if I was seeing fresh blood in my stool. The blood I see more or less makes my stool look maroon so so scared.

[@Frankii]‍ I’m very sure it’s just a reopened fissure or hemorrhoid as the blood you see is fresh.

Unfortunatly they can’t do anything about me, it honestly is such a horrible position to be in.

  • Hi [@Sabr]‍ how are you?

I had my colonoscopy it really wasn't that bad i found I didn't need a sedative only a little gas an air.

I have to wait 2-4 weeks for the official biopsy results but its a good job i did push for one as i have ulcerative colitis.

Thankyou for all your support, ill keep checking this so i can see how your getting on.

  • Hi all, hope you don’t mind me jumping on post, I’ve been bleeding since July from the back passage with bowel movements and sometimes bloody mucus drips before or after I go to the toilet mostly light blood but the mucus is slightly darker which worries me, have phoned the doctors so many times since July just kept sending me suppositorys and laxatives movicol and bysicodol which never solved the problem which what they thought it was, all my bloods were fine apparent from inflammatory markers were slightly high but they wasn’t bothered about that so no further action, stool test came back clear, anyway recently they sent me for a colonoscopy they got me in on the 10th of november for a bare in mind I had 12 phone calls and only see the doctor once in August in the whole time so unless you push for things you won’t get answers,

i had the colonoscopy turned out I had 2 internal Hemorrhoids which the surgeon banded at the time and said he was 99% sure that was what was causing me all these problems, anyway I had the sedative and gas and air procedure was uncomfortable but the nurses were brilliant and helped me through it. And I kept watching it on the screen too lol now nearly 5 weeks on I’m still bleeding and still struggling to go unless I have laxatives and I’m getting so down because I’m really not hopefully it has worked didn’t even see the bands come off as it was 7 days before I could go after the procedure, rang the doctors and been to the hospital but been sent home again really not sure what to do now, just hope they haven’t missed something serious, but they did say lots of people do bleed for weeks and some don’t, I’m really at my wits end just want to be happy and healthy mummy for my 2 little girls, thanks for listening ,

  • [@Frankii]‍ hey I am glad you went for the colonoscopy and I’m also glad it wasn’t something life threatening. Atleast they know what it is and you can now get it treated. I can feel a lump on my anal verge now so I’m more worried.

  • [@Tinka1987x]‍ have you tried changing your diet ? So glad it was just Hemmeroids for you.

  • Try to keep calm and not worry,  it could be internal hemorrhoids or a benign polyp that isn't anything too serious. I'm always here for a chat if you need. Stay strong not long now xxxx

  • I really do hope so :( keep me in your prayers. So stressed out.

  • Hi hope you don't mind me joining the chat. I've had bleeding since July and over the past few months it's got worse every time I go to the toilet im Passing blood with clots. I feel that I have had to nag my drs to take it seriously. I'm due to have a colonoscopy on Tuesday and I'm starting to get really scared. I have 2 young daughters and all I can think is what will happen to them if its serious.

  • Hi,

sorry you're going through this too. I haven't slept for days convinced it's serious. I also have 2 young children and can't even look at them without breaking down. I have referral for further investigations so assuming I'll be having a colonoscopy soon too.
