Waiting for biopsy results on a large breast lump

Hi everyone

Much like everyone else I am looking for some reassurance. I noticed a large lump in the right breast a little over two weeks ago. I was seen by my GP within a day who referred me to the breast clinic as per procedure. This appointment was on Tuesday 9th.

Up until the appointment I was feeling okay but since then I have been feeling really anxious. Ive read a lot of posts on this forum and it seems like most people were told on the day at least something about their lump and if the consultants were leaning toward worrisome or ordinary, but mine said absolutely nothing?

A doctor did the initial assessment and recommended an unltrasound and biopsy. He said he wouldnt do a mammogram due to my age(29). However once the radiologist did the ultrasound, she decided to send me for a mammogram after all.

Then when I returned from that for the needle biopsy, she seemed to be looking around the armpit area a lot on the ultrasound. And took a biopsy both from the lump AND from my armpit. Then inserted the metal clip to mark the site and did another mammogram to capture images of the marker.

Then the dr returned and told me I would recieve a call to make an appointment for my results.

I called the clinic yesterday just to ask if I may be able to bring someone with me (what with coronavirus) and the lady on the phone said I might not get an appointment I might just get a letter. But the consultant said I would get an appointment. So now I am worried that the team have suspicions about the lump.

I know I am probably overreacting and reading too much into things. But has anyone else had an appointment where the consultant doesnt indicate in any way if theyre worried or not worried? Or changing their minds about tests halfway through the ultrasound?

Thank you for listening to my worried ramble x

  • Well Ive had a phonecall already.. I am to go back on Wednesday at 9am for results. I am terrified this can only mean bad news.

  • Hi there, its scarey isn't it. I had the same this time last week, not expecting anything to really be wrong. They ended up doing the breast lump and lymph with markers.

I was told to expect a call to confirm suspicions and they already gave ,me an appoin tment on 23rd June.

Ive not had as bad a day since last Friday, each day has its own mind an d I just try to go with the flow. Frightened, scared and most of that is because I don't know what Im battling against yet.

I wish you well, let me know how it all goes, we are on a similar journey.

    xx Jacquie

  • Hi Jacquie,
Thanks so much for the reply. The waiting really is so difficult isn't it? I don't know if I feel better or worse having gotten a results appointment so quickly. I was dreading having to wait up to three weeks but now it feels like Wednesday is a hundred years away.

Have you been working at the moment? I'm finding it really hard to focus on my work. But my boss has been really understanding.

P.S. Thank you! She is a rottweiler cross mastiff... big softie :)

  • I'm a yoga teacher so was teaching everyday online, I'm taking a break and focusing on myself right now. Still think they got the wrong person ( but I know they are right.)

Im glad you are being seen so quickly, so much better than this awful limbo land. I'd be iterested to hear the outcome, as I am right behind you. I find long walks in nature are the best thing right now for me. TODAY FEELS LIKE A GOOD DAY.

    xx

  • Hows things? My consultant will call tomorrow.......eeeeek and phew all at the same time.

    xx

  • Hey Jacquie, how are you?

I've been okay today, my appointment is Wed at 9am, been keeping busy with work to stop my imagination running wild.

Best of luck with your phonecall tomorrow, let me know how it goes :)

  • Thanks so much, so I had a good and very long and detailed chat with consultant who is a total godsend and so compassionate.

He has informed me that it is stage 2, grade 3 so aggressive and possibly only gone to one lymph. I will have my MRI, Bone and CT scan in one day tomorrow which is great, then oncologist on tuesday. Hopefully I will start chemo in 3 weeks and start to bash this *** with all the power I have. I think after chemo I will have the op.

I so appreciate your replies, I wish youl well, much love to you and good luck tomorrow!

  • Hi Jacquie,

I had my appointment today and I too have confirmed Grade 3 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. They don't believe it has spread to the lymph nodes but they may need to take another biopsy to be sure. I also need to have a CT scan to check for any other areas of cancer. I have to wait for these results, along with the results of what receptors the tumour has, before I get any treatment plan.

Looks like we are off on this journey together xx
